Windscreen Washer

The foot operated washer switch on my S2 Spider no longer works, it operates the wiper but does not pump the water onto the screen.

I understand this is a common failure support by the fact that the second hand replacement sourced from good old EBay does not work either.

I am now going to do what I should have done in the first place and that is to buy a S3 washer bag complete with electric pump and fit a switch to the dash.

I would be interested to know how the system works on a S3, when using the washer does the wiper automatically work, i.e. is it a wash/wiper or wash only?

If anyone done this conversion so that the washers and wipers operate from one switch I would be very grateful for advise on how to do it?

I assume it is a question of running the cables curently connected to the washer switch to the new switch and to the pump as well. The question is which cables?

Thanks.

Re: Windscreen Washer

The washer part of the wash/wiper switch has packed up on my S3 so I have wired in a separate toggle switch for the washers only. It looked very difficult to get at the original wash/wiper switch on the steering column so adding another switch seemed th easy way out!

Re: Windscreen Washer

In the early S2 Spiders the washer part of the floor switch is infact a pump. When I bought my Spider this was defect, too. I was lucky to buy a second hand pump/wiper switch from HighwoodAlfa, EB Spares or one of the other vendors of Alfa spares. They often break the worst cases for spares.

Re: Windscreen Washer

My Series 3 washer operation does not operate the wipers. The wipers work fine in normal use. Can anyone clarify if operation of the washers should also operate the wipers?

I'm not too bothered what the answer is, but I am intrigued by the fact that I might have a problem that I didn't think I had!
