S2 Spider - Lights Not Coming On...!

Hi,
Wondering if anyone here could shed any light (no pun intended) on my problem.
I have a 1980 LHD S2 Spider and recently found the side/head/main lights all of a sudden no longer work when I move the lever upwards.
Although strangely the main beam flash does STILL work if I pull the lever toward me..!?
Had a look today for anything obvious but all the fuses seem ok. Can only conclude the lever/switch itself may need replacing..? Can anyone validate my crazy theory..?

Is there someway to test if the column switch is faulty..?

*No worries - all sorted.

Re: S2 Spider - Lights Not Coming On...!

Sounds like it could be your switch giving trouble. Not sure where in the Midlands you are, but I have a spare that you can try if you wish, so that you can at least eliminate the switch or prove it is at fault.

The other way to try is to disconnect at the plug and from the wiring diagram find the feed wire and short it to the appropriate terminal(s).

If your switch turns out to be faulty, you will have to remove the steering wheel to take it off because Alfa didn't think like Ford or Leyland, and the switch doesn't split around the column. If you haven't taken the wheel off before, have a look at the thread close to this about wheel removal. (Don't use a hammer!).

I'm close to Cannock, so if you're close enough, by all means get in touch.

Andy

SORRY - Didn't read that you'd fixed it!

Re: S2 Spider - Lights Not Coming On...!

Hi andyt,

Many Thanks for the offer of a column switch for a bit of fault finding.

I am quite close to you in Burton-upon-Trent but I managed to fix it yesterday. After having a good look at the wiring on the switch itself I noticed a tiny break across one of the wires where it connects into the switch housing. A bit of soldering and job done

Thanks for taking the time to answer my query...
