10548 Camshaft for a 1977 Kamm Tail Spider (2.0) ?

My Aus girlfriend wants to buy a camshaft for her Dad's 1977 Kamm Tail 2.0 Spider.

Her fathers mechanic has told him to buy a 10548 camshaft, I believe this was fitted to Euro spec Alfa's, and only US based cars had a lesser performing camshaft.

Now onto the real question (and assuming that her father has a US derived car), is the 10548 the best upgrade, or does anyone have a suggestion as to something better?

Keeping in mind that the car will be used only for road use, and reliability needs to be maintained.

He is also getting dellotto webers, and inlet manifold.

Have a good browse here, or send them an email....
- engine - cylinder head

You would normally replace both cams (one for inlet and one for exhaust) and she might not appreciate how expensive they are.

10548 is the type no. for non US specs 1750 engines in type 105 cars.
HighwoodAlfa list cams 10548 as for all the 105 engines variants
Pair '10548' camshafts 220.00 258.50
Girlfriends dad seems like me, and for daily drive and reliability (and easy of driving in town etc) go for the standard cams. Gives plenty of low down power and revs to red line with no probs.

Thanks all

Went to see Richard at Classic Alfa, 10548 are apparently a very popular upgrade but the Columbo and B 10.9mm offer better performance without any big sacrifices. (typically costs more though)

One should keep in mind that the cams are but one component in the 'system' that allows the engine to breath. Just bolting in high performance cams, without changes to the fuel, intake and exhaust systems, may actually hurt performance. If engine breathing mods other than the cams are not in the current plans, I'd go with the 10548s. They are a good upgrade from the lousy 10502 USA cams and used sets are available almost everywhere for cheap. They also work well with the Spica fuel injection.

EDIT: just cleaned the glasses to read that carbs are going on the car. Then I'd go one or two steps up from the 10548 but with nothing less than 34mm chokes.
