leaky spider S4!- seats removal

hi all

my beloved has a horrendous leak which with heavy rain means the front passenger footwell and rear footwells fill up like an outdoor swimming pool. i think the soft top is damaged at the sides and the water is bypassing the channels and ending up under the carpet. i started taking it apart last nite but am stuck with how to removet the seats. i can only see some allen heads attaching the seat to the floorpan but cannot get access to these heads-any ideas please?

anyone else suffer from a very wet floor in rain?

many thanks

If it's anything like my GTV it will be a pain in the arse but you should be able to get to the allen bolts by sliding the seat right to one end of it's runners. You might have to cut down an allen key and be prepared to undo it a quarter of a turn at a time.

Pull the seat fully forward and tilt it forward.... there are two 5mm allen bolts on the runners to undo.

Then slide the seats fully back and remove the two allen bolts at the front.

and yes... it's a bit of a fiddle...

Voila..

And keep the bolts marked with where they come from.... one of them is a different length

You may have more than one leak.....

My S3 had a bad leak in the passenger footwell which I traced to a split in a rubber drain pipe. This drains water from the front scuttle in front of the windscreen thro the bulkhead into the wheel arch.

Worth a check!

Just a thought...

Have you checked the drains in the area where the hood lays in when folded down?

Re: leaky spider S4!- seats removal

thanks for all the advice people. i will get started on that soon. looking at the hood from the inside i can see the lining has perished where it joins the canvas and therefore the water is not guided into the drainage channels. the rest of the roof is in good shape. does anyone know if the roof can be repaired in this area or am i looking at a new roof? any ideas on the cost of this if i need a new one?

cheers

Re: leaky spider S4!- seats removal

I can vouch for Coburns, I got the hood for my 68 Spider from them. They were very helpful on the phone when I was having some problems fitting it myself, but you can pay them to fit it for you.

I went for a lighter grade fabric as the early Spider hood frames are not very strong (mine's broken in two places) and a heavy weight fabric is not ideal.
