Re: 2.6 straight six Bertie ?

Hi Mark
Are you fancying a little project?!

It's not a Bertie in the usual use of that nickname - that's usually used for the 105 Coupes which are all four pots but it was a Bertone design. The 2000 and 2600 Coupe came earlier and were much bigger cars but had a very similar look to the 105 which appeared later. There's some pics here of what it should look like! There was also a Spider and a stunning Zagato version too.

Smart machines! Worked on a couple in the late sixties, I think Alloy motors, wet liners, dry sump machines, if the memory box is not confused again?:

Aha! i see now didnt think i had ever heard of a 105 with more than 2.0 and four cylinders....
I can see the later car in this pic, particularly.

I am looking for next project but i think that might be a bit too big for me just yet anyway.....
will wait for a "proper" bertie.

There was a 105 Coupe with a V6 in a few years ago, so it can be done.

Yes it can! Someone on here has an avatar with a V6 in a 105 Spider.

But the car we are talking about here is a STRAIGHT 6!

Are you on about the 105s now ZF? Like in my avatar? They are all alloy, wet liner, twin chain driven cams, two twin choke carbs, with huge all alloy sumps like a hammer head. Wet sump though, not dry. Good write up and pics here from Jamie....

Re: 2.6 straight six Bertie ?

Remember a couple we used to get in for service and repairs, one silver, one bronze. Both Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprints, straight sixes, lovely hide interiors, owned by business men of that era.:

Yes, it's a development of the 4 cyl Nord engines. The models type nos. are 102 (4 cyl. 2,0, originally from the 1900 Super) and 106 for the 6 cyl.
They were offered in 2 Berlinas, too, Alfa's own body and OSI special body. Berlinas used to be broken up for spares, but are very rare and expensive. Coupe (Sprint) like the E-Bay one, are the most numerous.
The very sought after Spiders are have a Touring body.

Very exclusive and expensive cars as new.

Re: 2.6 straight six Bertie ?

Just remember getting the liner seals to seal, was tricky Still the same on our old Puggie, alloy block and head, just a couple of extra pots on a six. Pulled the head on that little sweetie a while back now. Just wish I had replaced some valves and guides!: Next time around, when I feel like it.

Re: 2.6 straight six Bertie ?

The 2600 spiders are very nice. An unfinished one (although a lot of work had been done, went to see it in royston) went on ebay for about 10 grand just before xmas. I've notice mint ones fetching up to 25k on the continent, but usually LHD not the RHD conversions.

Like the 1900, the 102 series 4 cylinder 2000 engines also have iron blocks with an alloy head.
