Help Spider S3 Fuel system

As stated earlier at long last i am working on my S3 spider, has anyone got any info relating to the Fuel system routing on this European spec twin Carb 2.0 litre version.
Presume fuel flows from tank to fuel pump then to filter then to Carbs, pics diagrams would be great as the only info i can get is for US spiders.
Best Regards asb

Re: Spider S3 Fuel system

I was going to suggest investing in a workshop manual but then I checked in mine and it only has the L-Jetronic system in it, not a lot of help I'm afraid.

Re: Spider S3 Fuel system

Hi
The rubber fuel pipe runs from the metal pipe to the top of the fuel pump, then out the side and to the back side of the filter in a swan neck shape to allow for movement, then from the forward side of the pump up to the carbs.

regards

Although for a 1750, I think this thread (Checking the fuel lines are right) would be useful for your 2000.

Hmmm Re: Spider S3 Fuel system

Progress Report:::::::::::::
Cleaned up my carbs, removed my broken throttle cable which was caused by a seized throttle quadrant situated below the carbs, this also freed up the carbs which now operate at full deflection.
Got the Engine running , and more importantly starting on each restart.
The Engine apears to be running roughly, presume it is the timing, have got Marelli electronic ignition, anyone got any basic tips for adjusting the timing on this system.
Again your help would be apreciated.
Thanks asb.

Re: Spider S3 Fuel system

Hello again,
If you have re-built the carbs, you will need to have them set up correctly with relavent equipment or the engine will always 'Tick over' roughly and 'spit back' when increasing the revs slowly. I do not know the history of the car or engine but plugs, points, ht leads and timing could all contribute to the problem. You will have to check all of those.

Re: Spider S3 Fuel system

Fred, you have come up 'trumps' again. So far i have fitted new plugs and ht leads, am going to replace the coil, distrubutor and rotor arm.
Then am going to start her up and see how she runs, hopefully have not interfered with the Carb set ups too much.

Best Regards asb.

Chilling Re: Spider S3 Fuel system

Latest Update::
Have removed the dist + rotor arm, both in very good condition.
Refitted them and by loosening the 10mm bolt that is located to the r/h bottom distr housing adjacent to the radiator.
Adjusted the dist and now i have an Engine that fires up first time with no probs or throttle input required(never happened before) .
Still have some fuel dripping out of the #3 carb (air filter housing removed at the mo), but the engine revs freely.
Am going to obtain an Escort MK2 throttle cable next weekend and take my baby round the block!!!
I cant wait.
Regards asb.

Re: Spider S3 Fuel system

Great, well done. Even if all is set up correctly you will sometimes get fuel dripping out of the carbs. Thats why the air filter sump has two drain pipes out the bottom to drain the fuel away from the starter. Keep us all informed of progress.

Re: Spider S3 Fuel system

Thanks for that bit of info, it now makes sense ref the drain lines from the bottom of the air filter. Have you any info on where these drain lines go to??

Re: Spider S3 Fuel system

Hi
The two drain pipes normally link into one then hang down as far as the sump. Any fuel will just drip out the end and onto the road.

Do you think that is true with the S2 as well?
