Help Spider S3 Air Filter housing + solex twin carbs.

Have at long last started to renovate my 86 2 litre spider.
Drove her for 4 years winter and summer, then stored her for the last 3 years.
Have these questions
1 Have removed the cylinder shaped air filter and am in the process of removing the housing that attaches to the Carbs, have removed aprox 6 bolts at the top, are there any more bolts on the lower surface of the housing ?
2 My solex carb throttle linkage is very stiff, any special pointers or info on these Carbs.
Your help would be apreciated.
Regards alfaspiderboy

Re: Spider S3 Air Filter housing + solex twin carbs.

Not sure about the Solex, but on the webbers there is 4 screws above the cylinder (six if you count the carb mounts) and four below. The ones below are a pig to get at, especially on a GT as the inner wing is in the way, mine permanantly lives with just one in the bottom, it doesn't seem to leak.

Again I'm not sure about the throttle linkage on the solex but mine seems free enough.

Thanks VeloceMitch
Whilst fumbling under the housing i could feel what i thought could be bolts, but i hoped this was not the case, i think you have confirmed it.

Thanks alfaspiderboy

Re: Spider S3 Air Filter housing + solex twin carbs.

Hi
Twin carb engines have four bolts at the top and four at the bottom.
They are arranged diagonally, ie if the top one is on the left the bottom one will be on the right.

Remove the air filter and ignition/rotor cap and place out the way.

Use 1/4 drive rachet with short extention, u/j and I think 10 mm socket. Put hand (and arm) under carbs from forward gap, you will
find nuts will come off but you will need patience.

regards
