Very slow going since Flash Advert appeared at the side of Forum!
Never had a problem with the forum speed in general until approx ten days ago.
Since the Alfa Romeo advert / flash video at the side of the screen browsing has been irritating as has posting.
Slow to type, slow to navigate and slow to scroll.
All my computers are doing this since the said advert was added. All running IE 8-9. I don't want to have to switch browsers just to view this site effectively as I got on with it pretty well.
Can someone please help me.

Reason: dead links and so long to sort out with the Flash advert too.

Seems all sorted as of this morning - many thanks.
A static advert in place of the movie makes much more sense

so the flash advert is back, and making this site almost impossible to view again...
wait 5 minutes for it to do it's thing, can finally scroll down the page, get about half way down, then wait another 5 minutes again.

It isn't sorted on mine. I have to wait about a minute before I can even click on a link etc

It is getting worse in fact, it just took me about 5 minutes to type a message in the 159 lounge

For me (with a slow netbook type PC), it's not as bad as it was when the flash advert first appeared, but the static advert was best (obviously).
So many other web sites doing these irritating ads too. It really spoils the browsing.

As someone who has a ppc mac, I've found life has been far better and my browsing far quicker since I disabled flash. I have flash enabled on one browser if there's something I really need to see and do you know what? I find myself using it once every couple of months at most. Make your life better - disable flash.

Graham: Find a utility for your web browser to disable embedded flash content
It's what I've had to do because the Flash ad causes my flash to go mental (120% CPU usage)

you obviously have some obligation to have this active, which is understandable, but how about a compromise.
Can the ad not be made to play once and then stop, rather than continually looping around. I reckon i can just about handle waiting for it to do its thing once.

If I could change this I would. It needs proper admin intervention.

I use Adblock to disable these type of adverts...
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir.../adblock-plus/
It certainly works with Firefox

Hi
Another vote for the Flash advert killing the site. Makes whichever PC I am using run like a 3 legged arthritic dog.
I would rather not disable flash, as for most things Flash is a non issue.
Could it be removed to just be on the main forum listing page, not on every forum page you have open.
All the best
Keith

ClickToFlash for Safari allows one to specify on which websites to block (or, conversely, to allow) Flash, either entirely or so that it needs to be clicked before it will operate.
A rather nice side effect is that it can replace YouTube flash player with embedded videos, so no adverts
There's probably a similar plugin for other browsers.

Cheers. Just installed that on the Mac and it blocks it. And the site now runs fine.
Just need to find an equivalent for Opera on the PC.
All the best
