Event : SUNDAY RUN IN THE SUN

Date : SUNDAY, 17TH AUGUST 2014

Start Time : 10.00 for 10.30

Start Venue : DUCK BAY MARINA, LOCH LOMOND, G83 8QZ (assemble in the roadway just beyond this hotel)

In the hope that the sunshine we have been enjoying these last few days continues into next month, here's a nice little 2-hour or so blast in the countryside finishing up with a spot of lunch in a pub overlooking Loch Long. From the roadway between the Duck Bay Marina and the Waters Edge (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/A...2b!2m2!1d-4.6134924!2d56.017103!1m0!3e0?hl=en - about the point on the map where it bizarrely shows 'Alexandria',) we'll head up Loch Lomond, then over to Crianlarich to take the A82 to Tyndrum (stopping at the ubiquitous 'Green Welly' for a brief comfort break if required), then on to the A85 through Glen Lochy to Dalmally before cutting back through the hills to Inverary to pick up the A83 over the 'Rest and be Thankful' to the Village Inn at Arrochar for lunch.

Proposed route : https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/D...3eb25eb74!2m2!1d-4.751508!2d56.1931!3e0?hl=en

Please RSVP so that I can forewarn the lunch-stop of roughly how many bods will be descending upon them. These are some great driving roads (IMO) with a good few photo opportunities so the 2-hour drive will probably be nearer 3, :D. Also, I can't promise to have rid them of all the tourist coaches and touring caravans, but I'll do my best, :p.

Hi Martyn, and a belated "Welcome" to the AOSS section of the forum,

Everybody will like as not just make their own way to the start point next to the Duck Bay Marina on the west side of Loch Lomond. However, mini-convoys may well take shape if there is more than 1 attendee from a particular area, so if you want to form one from the east we could meet up at the Harthill service area on the M8 at say 9am if you like?

Good stuff,. Our mini-convoy from the east will be leaving Harthill services on the M8 as soon after 9am as we can manage and just heading along the motorway, straight through Glasgow and over the Erskine Bridge, aiming to arrive at the Duck Bay start point for bang on 10 so nothing too exciting about this part of the day, but you're more than welcome to try and intercept us 'en-route', :D.

Really sorry guys i wont make it  I'm so gutted! Had a fight with a pothole and lost. Managed to buckle my front wheel and shred a wheel nut into the bargain. If i drive at over 40mph i get alot of vibration in the steering wheel. So i dont think a longish run down the motorway and twisty a/b roads will help. Need to get my old wheels on asap and get the BBS's fixed but that wont be till sometime next week earliest

Great to have such a turnout and such a variety of cars despite the weather.

I hadn't been on these roads for many years so really enjoyed the scenery, even if it was rather more like November than August.

Route for the run makes me want to repeat in the dry, but on Sunday with a 147 GTA in front and a 4C in my rear view mirror I was guaranteed the best of visual and aural treats anyway .

Good to meet you all, and hopefully the upward trend in numbers in this event can continue
