West of Scotland Feedback Poll / Events & Meetings

I would really appreciate feedback from active members in the West of Scotland. As you are aware the current forum set up divides Scotland into North & South which is a fairly sizable geographic split.

Although I have only been a member for a few months I am considering becoming a more involved member in the West of Scotland supporting and proposing event ideas>meets >garage events etc however my primary goal would be to get more members coming along from the West not necessarily increasing the number of events taking place throughout the current South region…..

Having set up the National GT Meet taking place in April I am now keen do a bit more. Looking back through the “Was That You?” South sticky thread there appears to be a more recent weighted interest toward the East of Scotland and as a benchmark it’s all I really have to go on. This may be partly due to Mr Clark abandoning Alfa Romeo dealerships on the sales front about five years ago ……..dealerships in Glasgow & Ayr disappeared overnight…

I drive around fifty miles per day around Glasgow and if I am being perfectly honest in ten months I have had two maybe three exchanged waves. I’ve been stalked by a 156SW but that’s another story. The majority of Alfa drivers in the area choose to ignore me or look at me as if I am some kind of alien.

This sadly does not inspire me with confidence. Clearly cost may well be an influence/ factor as members attending events have the ridiculous cost of fuel plus food etc. Personally I have limited disposable income but will try to attend as many events as I can afford as I thoroughly enjoy the meets.

Please vote and feel free to add your own thoughts or comments as this will keep the thread active however I will ask admin if they would kindly make it a sticky thread to maintain visibility.

Will run poll a while and take it from there. Thanks in advance for your valued input. Comments are also welcome from across the UK membership but please only place a vote in the poll if you are in the West of Scotland. Thanks

I enjoy going to meets and I'm prepared to travel but if its always going to be far away then I would probably go less. The last car club I was with was North and South Scotland as well and they met at Strathclyde park to try and even the distances out for East and West folks. My opinion is to maybe have a central meet maybe every couple of months and/or if there's the interest have one West side as well. It looks like there are a few people from the West side so might be enough interest for a meeting.

I appreciate i'm new here but thought I would give my view as well.

thanks,

Ben.

I think that West Scotland has gone a wee bit quiet, but, it's not always been the case (although the same can be said for AOSS as a whole).
Remember that the AOS 'Great North Run' is taking place in Western Scotland for the 2nd year running and some of the less active AOSS members always come along to that  Many members have been on a kind of long term sabbatical, but do still visit every so often, or, have been known to lurk in dark corners ;)
I, on the other hand, have been known to be a regular attender to events, but have been laid low for a while now but eternally hope that the weather and my health improve enough for me to venture forward again if for no other reason than to prove that I still exist and am not just some semi-sentient 'Moderator' program

Like FF I'm also a previous regular meet arranger / attender, and have been a bit quiet on here for a while now, but I will be a much more frequent active member again, soon I hope! :)

But I'm in the east anyway.....

I may well try to come along to that Stuart. The over due work to my poor old GT is now underway. The mechanics are now all done, bar the exhaust, which I'm hoping will happen today. And it is going to the body shop tomorrow to get it's dings, dents and scratches removed. I'm promised that it will be returned to new condition and I know the guy's work is good (Fraser and my elder brother runs a wee independent garage in Motherwell and use this guy for bodywork all the time).
