Date / Time : SUNDAY, 13th JANUARY 2013 / 10.30hrs for an 11.00hrs start
Cost : £37.50 per driver.
Here it is - that chance to banish the post festive season blues and maybe even go home with a bit of 'silverware' for the mantlepiece. This is the same price as last time, with a freebie upgrade from a Mini Grand Prix format to a Super Mini Grand Prix - for that, we get a series of short practice sessions, followed by 2 heats of 15 laps each, then a 15 lap final for everybody. Although only 14 places have been allocated for now in the online booking shop, up to 30 drivers can be accommodated so don't panic if you should find it fully booked - just PM me and I'll get Xtreme to make the other places available. I've been asked by Xtreme to ask you if you could please make your bookings by 14th December, although I might be able to get an extension on this deadline but don't bank on it, :tut:.
Booking : Click on this link - http://xkedinburgh.clubspeedtiming.com/eventreservation/Default.aspx - which will take you to the 'Online Booking' screen. Near the top-left of the screen, select 'Next Month' until you reach the listings for January 2013. Select 'our' event by clicking on the red highlighted date (13/01/2013) next to the Event Title - "Alfa Owners Club - David Boyd", then select 'Book Now' and follow the instructions.
Remember to arrive no later than 10.30 so that you can attend the safety briefing and get kitted-out in racesuits and helmets before the serious business starts at 11.00
Also, to help speed up the process on the day if you could pre-register your details it would be a great help,. Go to : http://clubspeedtiming.com/xkedinburgh/register.aspx , and the Event Code is 8457.
P.S. If anybody fancies going for a bite of lunch afterwards, if you could indicate so in your RSVP I'll see what I can organise.
Would love to come but sadly I am one of the many that have been affected by our governments austerity measures and now fall into the zero tax credit band. On top of that every time I blink something is going UP in price ...my salary is struggling to keep up ....he ho its Xmas and 2013 is upon us. God knows what I will spent my 23p in the £1 after tax (direct & indirect) next year......
Sorry guys just checked my calendar there and I wont be able to go because I have a bike lesson up at the test centre for the test the next day. Gutted now
Unless we reach the minimum requirement for the event (set by Xtreme) of 8 confirmed competitors by Monday 7th, this will regrettably have to be CANCELLED / POSTPONED, .
Doing my best to get some of my mates to come. Difficult when it's so far away from us in the 1st place. So if we can make the effort from over 100 miles away, then I'm sure some more of you who are a lot closer can make the effort to come along too
David I got a call from my bike learning place today saying they might be able to get me a test this week. All going well I will be a yes again but will let you know tomorrow.
I'm holding my breath as I type this - it looks like we'll scrape together sufficient numbers on the day if everybody who's said that they're coming turns up.
Could I ask those of you who haven't already done so via the RSVP facility, to PM me please to confirm whether or not you'll be joining us for a bite of lunch at a local hostelry after the event. If you could include an indication of how many 'heads' will be in each of your respective parties, it'll give me an idea of what size table I need to reserve.
I now have a car load from Laurencekirk, so by my reckoning more than half of the drivers on the day are from Laurencekirk or surrounding area. My mate Eddie is Mr Competitive! Watch out for him!!
Reason being, Xtreme need to know in advance how many people they are preparing for in terms of staffing levels etc (there is a legal requirement on the ratio of staff to drivers seemingly) so if a load of 'extra' participants turn up unexpectedly, they could well find themselves confined to the spectator gallery, .
There are still, at the time of writing this, 5 slots available in the 'online shop' above but if they have sold-out when you try to book, drop me a PM and I'll get Xtreme to make some more available.
OK, so that's lunch organised. I've booked a table here Home | Bridge Inn, Ratho (same place as last year for those who attended), provisionally for 10-12 people. However, I've promised them that I'll phone them on Sunday morning to confirm numbers so you've got 'til then to make your mind up and I can adjust the table size accordingly, .
@ Mike and Andy, I'll be leaving no later than 9 am. Another thought I'd had was leave at 8:30pm and have a Bacon Roll and cup of tea stop at The Horn? Just a thought.
If you approach Newbridge along the M8 (as you should be doing unless you're using another of your infamous "Aimee's Scenic Detour Routes", ) then you'll exit before the start of the road works - or at least where the road works used to be coz they're finished for now,.

Thanks to everyone for making today a great success! Andy and I had a great time - Andy was particularly pleased! - so many thanks to David for persevering and to Graham for holding the fort on the day. Looking forward to the next one!
Cracking race folks! We ended up with just the 10 drivers on the day, which is fine until you discover 7 had travelled 100 miles from Laurencekirk! Something to think about for you central belt and southern members! Anyhoo! Minor rant over!
We decided to split it into 2 heats of 5 with a reverse grid for round 2, then 2 finals.
The B final was won by our very own Mike Shea followed by Chris Brock then Rob Vranjkovic, Andy Wilson and Aimee Docherty.
We then had the A final, the scene was set for a battle out front between young Andrew Shea and Eddie Bruce. Eddie started on pole, and despite the best efforts by young master Shea, finished in 1st to take the spoils back to Laurencekirk. Andrew took 2nd followed by yours truly (3rd again!!) then Scott Walker and Ross Perrett in 4th and 5th.
Fastest lap times were very close, with only myself and Eddie dipping into the 28 second bracket and everyone else in the 29's or very low 30's. Speaking to the organisers after the event I learnt that the lap record is currently 26 seconds dead, or just under 3 seconds quicker than our quickest driver!!!!! I find that quite depressing, as I thought we were doing alright. I guess that's the difference between us mere mortals and the really quick boys.
Results below after 3 races
1 Eddie Bruce 1st 1st 1st 30 points 28.865 sec fastest lap
2 Andrew Shea 3rd 1st 2nd 27 points 29.016 fl
3 Graham Bruce 1st 3rd 3rd 26 points 28.984 fl
4 Mike Shea 2nd 4th 1st 26 points 29.308 fl
5 Scott Walker 2nd 2nd 4th 25 points 29.272 fl
6 Chris Brock 3rd 4th 2nd 24 points 30.251 fl
7 Rob Vranjkovic 4th 3rd 3rd 23 points 29.761 fl
8 Ross Perrett 4th 2nd 5th 22 points 29.523 fl
9 Andrew Wilson 5th 5th 4th 19 points 30.072 fl
10 Aimee Docherty 5th 5th 5th 18 points 30.355 fl
A great way to spend 2 and a half hours with like minded petrolheads, just a shame more of you can't be bothered.......
You can't just assume that folk can't be bothered .... it is the middle of January and lots of folks might be struggling to make ends meet before their much awaited January salary after an expensive December - I'm very disappointed Graham that you made such a comment!
