In case anyone is ever really stuck, I have AlfaOBD and the interface to connect to my 159 (most other Alfa's probably), for resetting faults, service oil light, doing a forced regen, etc etc If anyone desperately needs it.

No problem , I know what it' like to know yoiu need something that someone nearby possibly has, but be left with no optino than to pay the dealer £40 for the privelege.
The reason I posted the message is because I don't always read messages here so might miss somoen asking for help...just letting it be known that I can be contacted if anyone thinks it can help them
