Did you know, during WWII, the Japanese tried to develop an aircraft carrier sub?
The idea was the sub could carry and launch, via steam catapult, a small sea plain. After landing the plain would then be lifted by crane and put back in it's water tight hanger on the fore deck.

Just noticed Franks and Duncs replies - little bit more respect for the Senior Service required!
I'll clear up a few points without breaching the official secrets act :
1) No smoking on boats Dunc (still allowed slippers tho' but only during a movie or a trip to the spa!)
2) All the periscopes/Wireless/Radar etc. are reffered to as Masts
3)The old fashoined snorkel has been replaced by the vex mast allowing us to suck air into the deisel when somebody's pressed the wrong button on the reactor.
At my RNR training, we goat keelhauled fur calling them boats they ur ships.:lol:
