Renting a Garage?

Well The shock absorbers on the 166 have crumbled to dust. Usaly that writes off a 166. However I'm too caught up in this car to let it go. I've order new front upper and lower wish bones. Koni shocks and power flex bushes and springs.

Now I just need somewhere to fit them! I have been looking on Gumtree but with no success. Where else could I find a garage for rent for about 1 month? Would need to be one on those posh garages where you can drive in to it AND open the door! but location does not matter.

Cheers Stuart

Have you found a thread that really helped you maintain your 166? Please PM me the link!

Re: Renting a Garage?

What no reply yet Stu?

Well I am sitting in the "home",on my wireless mobile inet, with my mother and the sad thing is you wouldn't let an animal or a 166 go thro this.

She learned to drive in her late 50's and took her twin sister ,who had a stroke out in the car ,just the two of them. Here I am sitting here she is playing with her covers and occasionally watching the tele and I can't even get her in the car and take her a run and get a chinky or indian.Just to give her a wee bit of pleasure in the time she has left on this god forsaken planet.

The biggest mistake the older generation did was rise to the call and win the last world war...Is the planet any better after their sacrifices...no and the gov in this country treat them worse than criminals.

Not in theory...on paper eveything is perfect. my ass.

So get yer fing finger oot. and make hay while the sun shines and get yer springs done...the fronts are dead easy if no seized stuff but ye ken that ken and drive her until she does turn to d/rust.

I feel a bond as I WAS AN ACADEMIC 40 YEARS AGO... AND at this stage in my life I can still, just, remember those days.before i felt my first spanner and I felt the need for speed...mph that is....in those days you didn't need to qualify, and the throbbing of a BSA Bantam D7 between my legs...WELL I was young then and it was all I could afford...petrol 1/6 a gallon iirc 7.5p in todays currency.

Pomeo

just pondering the meaning of life, why are we on this planet etc.drives you either to drink or madness. GOD WAS PETROL 1/6 A GALLON

Re: Renting a Garage?

Sorry to here of your mother and sisters problems. My Grandmother recently passed away. Towards the end she was in a nice home. I think I'll go there when I'm too old. They had a nice smooth path that wound its way to the bottom of the garden. Then you opened the door on the adjacent building and you where in the Pub! Nice and accessible by wheel chair! Its the way to go.

I'm not sure my spring would survie the 160 mile trip home and in the winter the nice clean sheds in the steading fill up with grain straw and cows! so it just leaves the dark damp sheds You would find me and the mice huddled in the corner for warmth

I think my problem is that I have to rush every job I do. A have to keep an eye on all my tools when somebody walks by.

I want to take my time. I haven't had much experience with seized bolts so if I have problem I can have a cup of tea, I can walk away and go back next weekend.

I think your right I'll be looking for a double garage. I'll do the rad and brakes. and if I get funding I might try to install the DSP and/or leather as they would be quite big jobs as well. (Or at least take the ICS out and install the wire that will go to the CD player.)

Re: Renting a Garage?

The pair of you are like the 2 Ronnies

Her mum has an almost empty double garage in Bearsden that I use on rare occasions, I'm not sure how she'll feel about a stranger being in there fiddling with gubbins though.

If it was something like an interior swap that could be done in a day (or a few days - just leave the car in there) I'm sure she'd be fine with you using it aslong as I'm there aswell, my old mum lives 5 minutes from there so it's not too big a deal.

She always has an endless supply of chocolte biscuits aswell

Re: Renting a Garage?

Should be able to do in it a couple of days given the right tools and research...TBH, I'd like to see this as it's something that's gonna need doing on the smoker at some point in the near future.

I'll ask her and see what she says, won't do any harm

Re: Renting a Garage?

Well a hand is always welcome! I can only assume you haven't found the multiple threads of my swearing at my oil filter!

As I say we could meet up for a pint and then we wont be total strangers or even worse "A man on the Internet!"

Oh needless to say I will part with a little cash for the use of the garage!

Cheers Stuart
