Re: Glasgow... Is it going down the pan or is just me?

I bought a flat in Knightswood about 5 years ago. It was not a posh area by any means. but It seemed a decided hard working sort of place. It was filled with people walking scruffy dogs at all times of day and night.

how ever now it seems that almost every night there are "people" out side in the street shouting at each other. Has anyone ever been able to understand a Glaswegin shouting? There was somebody stabbed to death a few streets away and I think its changed the area.

yup
I live in knightswood..was ok when i moved here 8yrs ago...yes av heard ***** walking by my house shouting at each other...usually about 3 in the morning...lincoln flats r a blight in the area..every junkie.. thief.. ned..must live in they flats...whoever decided to put them there should be made to stay in them..

U live and learn...then u die and forget it all.

Re: Glasgow... Is it going down the pan or is just me?

I got caught up in a stabbing (by James McAvoy's brother no less) outside the Lincoln last christmas, I got stranded down there til 6 am because they my car was inside the crime scene - so was I but there was a riot so they ignored me...that'll learn me for going to pick people up when I should be getting quietly drunk at home

I almost bought a flat in that scheme...glad I didn't.

Re: Glasgow... Is it going down the pan or is just me?

On the same day that it was said to be one of the top 10 cities to visit, I witness yet another ridiculous act right outside my office in broad daylight (these seem to be happening on a daily basis these days).

An S Class is parked just outside the easy internet cafe on st vincent street about 1.30ish. Was just having a look at it from afar when a young (semi smart, if there is such a thing!) ned walks up and somehow gets into the drivers door. He sits in but doesnt shut the door. Thought to myself that he doesnt really look like the sort to be driving an S class but you never know these days. Next minute he is helping himself to the sat nav and goodness knows what else and stuffing it in his bag. Then a guy runs out of Cafe Nero and goes for the car. Weird situation as it kind of looked like he might have knew him. Anyway, turns out that he does not and hastily drags the guy to the side of the road and makes him empty his bag and pockets. Some shouting ensues and then the owner drags him back into the car and sits there for ages. Had to leave at that point but would assume they were waiting on police.

I just cant believe the nerve of these people...and in broad daylight....in the middle of one of the busiest areas of town.

Makes you ashamed of the place.....how the hell do these people come up with Glasgow as one of the top 10?!!

Re: Glasgow... Is it going down the pan or is just me?

I was in Glasgow for a course last month, the hotel service was crap so decided to get a takeaway.
on the way back to the car i noticed some ned making straight toward me from across the road i presume hed just been thrown out of the wetherspoons opposite.
Anyway he starts spouting the usual crap,so i tell him to fook off, at that point he sticks his hand in his pocket ,Boom chips in the face and a tin of bru off the side of his head.
Now ive been going to glasgow for seminars etc for years and this is the first bit of trouble ive had, wrong place wrong time.

Bearing in mind Lonely Planet is principally for tourists & visitors to the city...you know.... folk from Bearsden & Milngavie, etc. statistically there's less chance of them being affected by crime. (which is what this thread appears to be focussing on now)

Prefer 'Nae Mates' magazine for this particular publication.
