Thumbs Up Goodwood Festival of Speed (30th June - 3rd July)

Hi all,

I've been to FOS a couple of times but it's been 4 years since I last went with a bunch of guys from the S2000 forum and when I had my Clio Williams 10 years ago.

I've done a search on the forum and we had threads for last year and the year before that, however it is only 4-5 weeks away and I wondered what the Alfaowner group got up to?

Goodwood Festival of Speed Tickets | Tickets for FOS

Prices are typically expensive (£58 adult at weekend).
I am planning on going again with a friend but wanted to get a thread going as well

Yeah it it a complete joke! I think I paid £15 back in 2000 and that works out nearly 7% increase every year

I am really surprised that there is no 'family' ticket but no point when you can cash in this much

Lisa and I went last year and it cost me £100+. !! Was good but not sure its worth that much for a day out. Maybe enough people will boycott it this year and bring prices back down, but I doubt that will happen!!

I will be going down on the Friday as there's normally one paper or another doing free tickets, normally the Times because of the association with goodwood, we are planning to arrange a meet point near the Alfa stand at a certain time during the day.

Guys, we're not just going to Goodwood FOS, we're going to DRIVE GOODWOOD TRACK on 1st July, and it only costs £59 for the afternoon cos it's through the Cloverleaf Club! That means it's Alfas only

Comes with a days free admission to the FOS. Me, Brad and Slimbloke are already booked in for the afternoon.

Here's the thread:
http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/south...ack-day-3.html (who wants to do another track day?)

And here's the Cloverleaf page to book on (we're going PM)
http://www.cloverleafclub.co.uk/comp...-day-2011.aspx

Anyone who did the Cloverleaf Track Day at Oulton Park last July will know that these are excellent value for money. This is a half day instead of a whole day, but it comes with admission to Goodwood FOS so in some ways is better value...

The Oulton day was outstanding value for money. However 3 x 12 minute sessions for £60 is not

That's almost £2 a minute for track time. A normal track day will be between £120 - £200 and you'll get a potential 8 hours on track even if you spent half the time (4 hours) on track and went on the most expensive day (£200) it only works out at around 80p a minute. Typically it should be about 55p per minute for time spent ON track.

Now you may get a days ticket thrown in but most of that day will be spent hanging around the GW track and sorting yourselves out in prep for it not leaving you much time to actually see much of the action or stands / exhibitions.

They'd been better off upping the price (£100??) and giving a half day (4 hours) on track and the rest of the day in the show.

I got given Thursday tickets by my dads friends as I'm up the road in Brighton and he only wanted to go three days! And I've got my final hand in on the Friday at uni so I'm on it full steam to make sure I can make it!

Commanderfish - Is there an allowance for wheel chair users at the "Drive Goodwood track"?

The reason I ask is because a friend of mine is in a wheel chair and he wants to come along

.
Fair point - but it also includes a Go-karting competition and driving Alfa's cars (presumably Giulietta as last year was Mitos) on an off-road course, plus admission to the FOS, so that's pretty good I reckon.

You're right that 12 min sessions are a bit tight, I assumed they were 20mins. However, I personally wouldn't take my car out for much more than 20mins at a time anyway. I would guess that spending 3 hours actually on the track out of a whole day would be an achievement? Surely most road cars get brake fade after about 20-40 mins?

I guess it means low wear and tear on our cars and that the day is more suitable for new/inexperienced track dayers.

I still reckon it will be a laugh

James, I really don't know about the disabled access thing, have a look on the Cloverleaf or Goodwood websites. Most places these days should have disabled access, though I imagine your mate might miss out on driving Alfa's own cars and the Go-carts as they won't be modified?? I don't know what he needs in terms of modifications to cars.

I'll be there on the Sunday.

Yes it's expensive but I have to say that I have enjoyed everyone I've been to. There is always too much to do, last year I don't think I got to the rally stage and that is my thing!

But to put it in perspective, how much does it cost to go to the F1 at Silverstone these days....

Thanks for the info but now booked up for FOS. He would have been happy to sit and watch - he's a proper car nut so is more than happy to just sniff the petrol fumes - maybe next time

I got a ticket for the Thursday off of my brother I went on the Friday last year . With some great roads on the way there, even the drive to Goodwood is brilliant, let alone the show itself
