possible idea for a meet? 27/11/2010
Hi All,
i have been looking into doing another meet in the bedfordshire area, and stumbled across something that might be interesting....... it is a taster session for track days at Bedford autodrome. basically, it is 25 quid for all the usual briefings etc, then 20 mins on the track first three laps behind a pace car, then the rest of the 20 mins at your own pace. now i appreciate that this isn't going to excite any track veterans out there, but i thought it might be a good idea to do a bit of a drive to the autodrome, 20 mins on the track, drive to a pub for lunch, then back home.
info is here - taster session and it is on the 27th november 2010.
what do you think? if there are enough takers i will get an event set up

Don't want to sound like a party pooper but if the first 3 laps are behind a pace car, depending on how fast he wants to go this is a 4mile+ track so you may only get a couple of free driving laps.........

i know what your saying stu, but my thoughts are that it is as cheap as go karting, and it can be tied in as part of a meet with relative ease. the time limit in itself is kind of insignificant for me, as it will just be a taster of whether i want to go and do a full blown track day in the future. hell, it will be a fun way to blow 20 mins whilst not worrying about coppers and i don't have to worry about wrecking my tyres too much, or running out of fuel

right, i have just fired some questions to the organisers, and as soon as i have a reply to them all i will create an event thread. my thoughts are that we book individually on the session, through their website, meet up at a pre determined point, and then convoy to the Autodrome. after that i will find a suitable venue for lunch, then we can all go home fat and happy
i will let you know when i get an update

ok all, i have got an email back from the trackday dude
Hi Lee,
Thank you for your email.
This sounds like a great idea and certainly something I can help you with.
• Typically we will run 25 cars on a taster session and currently there are 22 places available FOR 27TH November at Bedford Autodrome. I can always hold some places for you if you think there might be a few of the members wanting to come along.
• I cannot really say how many laps you would get as it will obviously vary between drivers, but 20 minutes is quite a long time for one stint on circuit.
• You do not need a specific car racing helmet for track days. As long as the helmet is from a reputable manufacturer/retailer and is in a good condition you can use it. Motorcycle helmets are also permitted for use on car track days. Please bear in mind that drivers will need a full face helmet when using a convertible/open top vehicle.
Our taster sessions are a great place to start, but in addition to this if you wanted to come to a half/full day event I can offer you a group booking discount and reserved garages for 10 or more drivers.
I hope this has answered your questions.
i think it sounds good, so will start an event thread
