minimum 70% of light has to pass through for side windows and 75% transmission for windscreen.

UK Car Window Tinting Laws - what the law says about legal window tints in the UK

I have seen other sites that states 100% for any window in front of the B pillar, but can't find them now

Legally you are not allowed to tint the front door glass with any form of window tint.

The reason for that is the maximum tint allowed will allow 75% light to pass through the window, most (certainly Alfa) have tinted their windows to this level already, look on the window and you will see a %age sign, that is the limit that have been done to.

Tint any further than that and you will have a rectification notice applied to your car and i believe a fixed penalty fine, traffic cars carry light meters these days as well so don't think you will get one over on the old bill....

Anything rear of the B pillar can be as dark as you like

Well thank you very much Jay, that sure does help lots

I'll check what the window says on the front, if its 75% already than I shall not bother. Not going to go with the rears dark as it'll look like a van

Easy option don't leave anything on display in your car

As Jay says I think it's illegal to tint the windscreen and front door windows on top of what the manufacturer would have already done.

I haven't got any glass behind my B pillers

Apparently the side windows thing was a recent change in legislation, due to someone with limo-tint side windows having an accident in the dark...

Now I won't be able to put metallic bronze tints on Green Machine like the T33 Carabo

I can sort of see where they are coming from though, and my new windscreen is bronze tinted to the legal limit, and so will my side glasses.

I desided against the tints as it would make the car a little chavvy

So does anyone know if ARUK still do the blind thingys that I have seen around?

I am going to get tints in the rear but you if you are looking for blinds you should have a look at windoes sox, they are genius and they let you open the window still: WindowSox : sun protection for babies, infants & pets in the car
