As Paul has sadly bowed out due to health reasons I thought I would gauge people's interest in having a few meets this year? I have enjoyed the drive outs and it would be a shame if it all ended.
Was thinking on an informal level, few of us like the previous years with a stop for a brew, bacon sarnie and a natter......I like the idea of some drives in Kent, Sussex/Surrey and Essex/Suffolk, with radios to make it easier and a early-ish meeting time to beat the Sunday traffic and enjoy the roads.
Obviously dates would be good, could mirror some of the dates used previously. If a few of us are up for it we could get this pencilled in? So who's in......
I'm in. I'm in Herts, but have always attended Paul's 916 runs down in Kent. I don't mind driving down to kent or Surrey. I'm sure some others will be interested.
I would be up for some meets, as used to enjoy Paul's runs and used to organise some myself when I had the time.
I also know quite a few other owners from Alfabook who would join as well
I'd be up for a couple of drives out this year. I hope to go on the East Anglian drive on Easter Sunday...
I picked up a car from the other side of Chelmsford last week a 1978 Kamtail Spider...out in the sticks somewhere...some fantastic roads in North Essex, lovely countryside and much quieter than Kent roads...shame it takes a trek to get there though...
Yep,got tickets for Hever and looking forward to it as I couldn't make last year. Also been accepted for Goodwood's Soft Top Sunday Breakfast Club on 4th June.
Better start cleaning and polishing!
Goodwoods soft top breakfast event is great, a group of us went 5 years ago lovely morning out. It was a very good turnout, many soft tops of lots of different cars. Well done for getting on the track.
I applied to the Goodwood soft top Sunday on 4th June....not sure I'll actually go though...a long way for the 1978 Spider...tho maybe bomb down in the GTA and park in the public area and mooch round.
also, I applied for the Vee Sunday in November...much more likely to go, either in the 166 or the GTA...so if anyone else wants to convoy down...early start.
Somehow missed this! I'm interested in the informal "drive brew & natter" type meets as opposed to car shows. Other than the recent East Anglia day out, has anything else been planned?
Hopefully Dave Flanners or even myself may organise a drive over the summer...I could organise a route, but it would have to be South East Kent...as I am unfamiliar with decent roads/routes outside of my small patch!
I may drive down to Goodwood on Saturday 10th June as Classic Alfa have a track day on...should be best of both, an early drive and then watch some old Alfas around the Goodwood Circuit.
The Classic Alfa Track Day at Goodwood on Saturday looks entertaining from the photos taken in previous years .Mike will you be heading across from Dartford side, any others want to convoy down from NW Kent area in the morning? If we want to spectate (free) from the Pit Lane then we need to sign-in 8 or 10.30, otherwise no restrictions. Apart from early early morning looks like it may be dry and warm. Would the A272 offer a decent run across to the Chichester area or is it a nightmare of cameras and roundabouts? Details of event are on the ClassicAlfa.com website
I'll be going down to Goodwood this Saturday. Either in the GTA (if I'm feeling lazy) or the 1978 Spider (if I'm feeling adventurous/committed). GTA route would be M20/26/25/23 and then cross country. Spider route would be ziggy-zaggy across the Weald/South Downs...will need to get up early!
Any idea on planned times may look at meeting, myself and son are west malling (gtv v6)
Cousin is Eltham (164 v6) enjoyable drive preferable. Hoping weather looks good.
I'll be down there about 0930. A few members of AROC are driving down together...but I'm not sure of the etiquette about AO forum chaps meeting with their convoy, so probably best to meet down there...I'll be in the GTA, a 156 Sportwagon...so I'll look out for the 164!
Ok we will see you down there; looking forward to it as the weather does look promising. I will be at Clacketts Services 8.15 leaving 8.30 should any AOers wish to convoy down.
We are leaving Watford around 8.15 aiming to get there about 9.30-10am. Fingers crossed for the weather.
