Good cop, good cop!
Well, I was heading up the M271 earlier today, motorbike behind me seemingly pushing me... so I drifted over the limit a bit and then into the left lane further up to turn off towards Bournemouth...
Before I got there, the motorcyclist came up alongside me (black Kawa) and rode alongside looking at the car/me, his high vis vest caught my eye and I noticed he was looking across, he then rode on ahead....
At which point both me and the missus shouted "oh ****" as we realised he wasn't just admiring the car but he was actually motorcycle police as written on the back of his high vis vest guess he was on his way to work/home or are there "unmarked" bikes now? no markings on the bike and his vest was the only thing that said police on it (from what I could tell).
Noticed I was doing nearly 90 at this point at which point he signalled me to just slow it down a bit with a nice hand gesture as he rode off!
Close call and having driven for 5 years with 0 points on my license, a relief!
Thank you to that chap for the nice gesture instead of a ticket, I'm guess he was an Alfa lover!
Just shows how easy it is to do though, and a reminder to just be that extra bit careful this winter!

You're lucky
And yeah, there are unmarked bikes patrolling our lanes these days... Normally out to apprehend other bikers. Wait till you see their tiny cameras!
I do often wonder what governs Police behaviour in these circumstances. I'm sure there are, what I like to call 'clipboard types', who sound like they need their adenoids sorting and would nick you the very second you drifted over 60
And others who seem all very calm and relaxed about things
Or is more like this shift was just ending and he couldn't face the paperwork

Im always surprised to hear drivers thinking that motorbikes are "pushing" them into driving faster. Or even trying to race them... Most newish sportsbikes over 600cc (and certainly all 1litre models) can accelerate and go faster than any sportscar on the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by a lot.
Its only we start comparing sportsbike vs. supercar (i.e DB9 and above) that game becomes a little more equal ground - but still not enough for said DB9 to accelerate away (tried and tested. On a circuit offcourse!

I know the speed and power of motorbikes, 2 of my good friends have high end bikes capable of doing 160 without a hitch
And yep, the acceleration is insanely fast, what I meant is when they sit right on your corner, you speed up to put some safe distance in - then they do the same and just hover there, I hate having them to what I would consider be too close, my cousin was killed on a bike too by a driver pulling out of a junction without looking as he was riding down the road

Sorry to hear about your cousin!
Im not trying to teach you about bikes, its just that the easiest thing to do on a motorway, upon spotting a fast bike behind you is; make sure middle lane is clear, indicate to the left and move out of fast lane. By the time you get to middle lane, you will be able to move back to your fast lane space (if thats what you want to do) because bike will have dissapeared.
This approach is safer than waiting for biker to lose patience and to then undertake you at 160....

I have to put my hand up to doing this on the motorway, I ride a Ducati monster ( when its not in bits ) the reason i "tail" cars is not because I am pushing them, its the wind resistance, makes it a bit more of a comfortable ride.
Behind a lorry is best tho

Thats Ok until you need to brake hard, then you had better find an escape route.

Most police are nice people, and won't go chasing people doing 80-90 on the motorway as that would be the majority of drivers, hehe.
When it comes to motorbikes, I think the enforcement of speeding is much more lenient as the motorcyclist is endangering himself more than anyone

Police officers often use there common sense when it comes to things like this. Its called discretion. Without you knowing the bobby would have put your car through the Police National computer which would show insurance etc etc. They can then put your details through the DVLA which will then show if you have a driving licence and how many points you have and what for.
So for example if you had points for speeding then he/she is more likely to pull you over and either have a talking too or issue a ticket.
In your case you have no points so in some cases a bit of advice works better than the formal way.
Police also judge it by what state the car is in and what the mannerism, character of the driver.
Bit of advice to drivers most police officers go by attitude of drivers. So be polite, helpfull and give info that is requested, if you give attitude it will go against you and the officer will look for further things as people that do this often have things to hide.
Police are nice people if you are nice to them! Trust me on this one!!!

some police cars have ANPR cameras (auto numberplate recognition) which shows them whether you have insurance/MOT/driving ban/etc, but these are probably expensive so they are very rare. It would take police a long time to manually find out the information so usually it's just a random stop and check..

Traffic cars have ANPR but it takes literally 10-20 seconds to do it manually, you wont even know!

The kind gent on the unmarked blue BMW wanted to show me a really interesting movie he had shot via his bullet cams built into the mirror housing I had already told him"I was guilty as sin". During the award ceremony he presented me with a certificate saying " I am guilty as sin " ! As we parted company I received a heart warming message from a fellow AOer who had witnessed the prize giving ceremony.

True, but they would only manually check it if they thought your car/you looked suspicious, or if they are following you on an empty road (the point being they couldn't check every single car they drive past which ANPR does)
