Geez, there goes the unique desmo design heads, to be replaced by a 5 cylinder turbo...

I'm not too concerned. I'm not wild about Ducati's recent offerings anyway, except perhaps the Monsters.

What about the 1098??? That bike.is styling and technological greatness. In a age where modern bikes are made super small and super ugly with minimal exhaust and panels just so a knob can brag in a bar that his bike looks the most "racing" thus making his the fastest, the 1098 just defys all those characteristics while beating these so called "racing" bikes round a track and in a straight line. The main reason why the Ducati 1098, MV Agusta F4 and Aprillia RSV1000R will always remain my favourite 3 bikes.

I really hope Audi appreciate what makes Ducati so special. I can't imagine they would risk changing much. They have been bought and sold before and are stronger than they ever have been. I went to the Ducati factory last year as part of my honeymoon (very tolerant wife!). What amazed me apart from how small it was was the enthusiasm of sall the employees - they all seemed to be so passionate about what they were making. The other thing i didn't know was that every Ducati is made to order - so it has an identified owner before it is built.

For sanyone thinking of going to the factory it is a must do - it is fantastic. But if you're an owner take your keys or V5 to save the 20 euro entrance fee. I forgot.

Well Mr Ferdinand wanted a "Red Italian Stallion" as he put it..

He couldnt get Ferrari or Alfa Romeo so he went for Ducati..

So the pro is he left Alfa Romeo alone

I thought that Ferrari and Alfa belong to the Fiat group and therefore state owned? They are Italian heritage and I think for that reason will never be sold (even with the crap there) Ducati is private I think?

The 1098/1198s are OK, but they are not the design icons that the 916/996/748 is.

I had a 749 for awhile. it was definitely a case of "one step forwards, two steps back" compared to the 748. I soon came to my senses!

The Ducati sport bikes are fantastic, but can really only be appreciated on track or outings like eastern tvl. Good roads, turning all the time. The bikes are extremely sensitive, they never give you a rest, which make them tiring as commuters or tourers.

A two cylinder engine can never make the same power as a four cylinder of the same size. It is a matter of not enough valve area above the piston. Then they will never rev as high as a four, due to the weight of the much larger piston. But they have so much more torque, and like in a car it is the torque that make it a winner, less gear changes, more flexibility.

The biggest problem with Ducatis is the inhibiting running cost, we worked it to 7x that of a BMW 1200S. The maintenance have all of the same problems we experience with our Alfas and more. Try to get parts for a Ducati. Then the BMW has some decent resale value as well.

BUT in my garage is only space for Italian vehicles.

Yes the Japs are great and I had a lot but the European bikes are so much nicer to own and ride. Worst part is that I currently have a Triumph in my garage and not a Italian. Speaking of which where can I get Triumph 955 Sprint RS secondhand Tupperware and other bits?
