Grill

I am looking for this type of grill.
I think it might help me a bit more on my 146 than the current grill for cooling purposes.

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...T/145grill.jpg

Can anyone perhaps tell me from which year model it comes from?
Maybe a VIN number then I can try and order it from George Alfa Fiat.
Or perhaps if anyone knows of a good second hand one somewhere at a scrap yard in Cape Town or JHB/Pretoria. Maybe also go check it out for me and see in what condition it is.

Will be appreciated!

Very little cooling effect by replacing the grill. I ran the race car without a grill for a complete session and there was no change in temperature. Try it yourself before you go out and change the car's looks.

BTW - the 146 would look nicer with the later facelift spec grill if you really want to change

I have to agree with Hennie, you will not gain cooling with the earlier grill. The effective air come into the engine bay from the low center area. I have tried various inlets without success.

You do not want to bring to much air into the engine bay, just enough to cool the engine. Too much air under the bonnet create a high pressure area, which lift the nose and compromise handling.

Alfa used the slotted grill on the 145 and the solid one on the 146.
I do not know if it will really make a big difference but if you can lay your hands on a 145 unit put it on and see what happens.
There’s a big difference between removing it completely and using a unit that was made by the manufactures.

If you remove it completely it could result in a lot of turbulent air damming in front of the hole which will result in bad air flow.
But with the 145 unit I assume that it was designed to allow additional air in since I personally think it is ugly compared to the 146 unit so Alfa used it for a reason. And in my opinion aesthetics wasn’t the reason.

Are you suffering from overheating issues or is the air going to the engine too hot? If it's the latter then the hot air comes from the turbo. Cool air could be directed to the air intake in a number of ways or the intercooler could be enlarged. If it's the former, then perhaps fitting a cooler thermostat could work. I suspect it's the charge air that's too hot? How about a bigger intercooler?

Working on a alfa is good for you. I am busy cleaning Scotts motors ports. So my garage is full of aluminium filings.

Yes and no.
I smelt fuel at the back near the tank. Upon investigation I noticed a fuel leak by the fuel tank where i made my conversion for the fuel pressure. and while I attempted to fix it after removing the fuel pump I stuffed it more...

but the bridge is almost crossed and hopefully this time it will be sorted for good!!
If not I will have to buy a new fuel pump and send it up to TN for his magic hand work! It seems that everything I touch turns to sh.t.....

LOL while cleaning the valves I managed to clean my chuckles as well. Just enough to sort out my blood pressure. Silly thing to do but it happens.
