Didn't make the show but...

at least I wont catch fire! Got as far as Navan and stopped for a coffee, the tank was leaking badly from the top. I had brimmed it for the drive to the show, and it was ****ing out. so I didnt fancy a long run with a hot day, petrol vapour, and my son strapped into the passenger seat. Homeward bound and out with the tools.

VIDEO0028.3gp - YouTube

All sorted now though, it would appear the rubber gasket for the fuel sender had given up causing the full tank to leak and pool on the top. Missed the show but I had a canny day spannering so it wasnt a dead loss

last couple... health and safety look away, an old fuel pump, bit of garden hose and a sparky connection was just the ticket for refilling the tank I've had enough mouthfulls of petrol thanks very much

that is indeed a very odd reaction as you were saying on the phone Jim. Pity you missed the day but sure safety first. I never brimmed the tank so I suppose I would have never known about the gasket
BTW I found the bloody original logbook and nct sheet during the week, typical.

Tank is going to have to come off again Mark, It now reads half full ALL the time. I think I may have bent the sender float arm and now its catching on the baffles inside the tank. I have it booked for the 16th for NCT in Kells. I might still get that NCT sheet off you at some point just to have it in the folder Oh, I fixed the rear wiper aswell... I took it off and fitted a rubber grommet in the hole

ah was thinking it might have been the motor but was never sure. If you want I can fax that sheet to you if thats easier? Im away on hols until Friday so will be sometime after that. The baffle inside the tank is quite small and tight Jim, there really isnt a lot of room to manoevre with so be careful removing and replacing. Oh and when refitting the tank watch out on the passenger side because there is an exhaust bracket that kept catching the side lip of the tank when I was fiting it and it took me ages to get around it, eventually I copped you can just pull the whole exhaust to one side then just about squeeze the tank up but when you release the exhaust the bracket will hold the tank in place

Yeah, I got the tank off handy enough but as you said had those problems getting it back home. I think I did the damage pulling the sender out in my usual delicate manner, at least it'll come apart easier the second time!

I'm planning to infect the zombies with my brain so they all turn into a replica of me, and _that_ will be the end of the known universe...
