alfa service department wont look at car
anyone come across this before?
i drive a 04 GT right hand drive
i've had it with me in france for the last year or so and took it into alfa garage for them to try (and fail) to fix some issues, they took it in even though its rhd.
anyway, my exile is almost over now and i took the car home last week. i'm back in france this week and my girlfriend tried to take the car to monaghans garage in galway but they wouldnt touch it cos "its an import"
this normal?

Re: alfa service department wont look at car
No, not normal and rather pedantic.
If they need parts, they put the chassis number into Eper and it tells them what the right part is, assuming its different to 'Irish' Alfa's which are of course different to French alfa's but then again also different specs to mainland UK Alfa's!

Re: alfa service department wont look at car
sorry i didnt mention I bought the alfa in the UK
i dont understand why, i rang them last week and gave them the chassis number when i was chatting to a guy about parts and he had no problem with it
I'll talk to them myself when i get home. maybe the girlfriend didnt explain it well.

Isn't the first 2 years of warranty cover by Alfa on a european scale?
After that, you may have problems.
With regards to looking at it, it shouldn't be an issue!

Re: alfa service department wont look at car
Even assuming it is 'normal' (which I doubt). What would their reasoning be for not touching an import ? Are they afraid it's potentially nicked ? Or that they can't ensure it's safety after leaving their workshop cuz of a less than transparent history ? It can't be difficulty in attaining parts.
Great to see a company doing so well that they can turn away business

Re: alfa service department wont look at car
Alasta Autos in Ringsend had no qualms in supplying parts for my 'imported' GT (bought on the UK) or doing any work/service on it.

Re: alfa service department wont look at car
Ya as the others say Alfa cover is alfa cover. perhaps a mention of the company here may help people to decide what to do about the company My 156 was bought in UK also and my dealer (sweep in waterford) had no problem in finding parts, chassis number is all thats needed. Maybe a call to Alfa Ireland to say that If the car isnt sorted that your legal advisor will be in touch.... Might work without having to get legal advice.... By the way what is the problem you have

Re: alfa service department wont look at car
shakes generally under 300rpm, gets less noticelable the faster you go.
took it to the garage in Paris and they swore blind it was damaged rims. said they checked everyting from teh suspension, mouts to gearbox and DMF.
2 new wheels and tires later still there.. took it back, balancing they said this time. 3rd time they said we dont know, bring it to another garage (gotta love the alfa service quality).
that garage diagnosed worn upper wishbones so thats what i'm looking to get done now.

Re: alfa service department wont look at car
If you are in the UK at a UK dealer, they should have no troubles helping you.
Call Customer Relations with dealer queries and they will deal with the dealership on yourbehalf

Re: alfa service department wont look at car
If you want to persue in Ireland send me a PM and i will give you the name and contact no. of the new MD of Alfa Romeo in Ireland. With a problem like this my attitude is go straight to the top. It would also help if you were to put your complaint in writing to them
