Indeed. The story also states that for just another £3000 you could have the Porsche yet the data panel "as tested" shows it is £7100 more expensive than the Megane.

AE is a biased joke.

I saw that comparison and wondered what they were thinking, those 2 cars are not rivals in any way, like comparing a Range Rover to a Corsa and then saying the corsa isnt as roomy and lack off road ability

I wonder if anyone actually buys it nowadays. I have a theory that they exist on advertising and advertorials paid for by the predominantly German manufacturers they favour .

At least thier bull crap keeps us entertained

The problem is, those who cannot see the bull crap believe it and then seriously think that the best ever cars are those than AE gives its 5* too and all Alfa's are only 2* cars.

I've always been convinced that motoring journos base their reviews on the press launch. If you fly them out to St Tropez, give them a 5* hotel, free bar, and loads of feebies, your new model will be the absolute ********. Similarly, take them to the 'Ring and let them loose in someone else's expensive sports car with no comebacks if they bend it and it'll be 5 stars all the way. Put them up in a Travelodge just outside Corby and give them a branded tie and hanky set and the car will stink.

It's also based on relationships between manufacturer and journalists . Even Porsche regularly bring out new models so that journos have to meet with them and try out their new spoiler/Alloywheel and meal. If the write-up isn't good the writer may miss out on the next one....
Alfa ,however, are probably less familiar with the journalists as they spend less time with them. You'd think Balocco would make a nice venue though.

Not Auto Express BS, sorry my apologies for a thread snatch and all that? :(:

On the Classic Car Show I watched the other evening QW (Yuk!) elaborated on the fine handling of the early 'E' types?

I would agree with that, leaving open just one reservation, namely so long as you were driving in a straight line? :D

Hatchback? :cheese: "top spec Lusso"

More "informative, concise" insight from the market leaders?

Bit late to the thread and not going to reply to the previous stuff but any questions let me know. I work for Auto Express.

I feel like this is going to start an Internet argument (which I really hate) but I do feel like a lot of the opinions posted here are pretty uninformed and I'm happy to set the record straight on any issues.

For a start we never make anything up. Everything we write comes from contacts we have at manufacturers or interviews with company bosses, etc.

I agree that many of our renderings are ****e, but they're just for fun.

What's uninformed? That people think British journalists make stuff up?
I can't speak for any other journalists but all of my colleagues at AE report only on stuff we've been told by sources from the relevant manufacturers. If it's a rumour we'll always say so.

Just like every profession it's easy to look in from the outside and make assumptions. Did you call/email one of the journalists and ask about the process, or their sources? We're all happy to talk to readers!

OK tell us more about the 159 hatchback model.
I wasn't around when we reported that (can't even find a record of it from a quick search) so I can't speak specifically about it. But we get told about cars all the time that don't make it to production for one reason or another.

Alfa has been particularly bad about making plans and not delivering - am I wrong?

And you agree the renderings are totally made up ****e and yet they're presented as factual news but claim you never make anything up!
The renderings are an artist's impression based on spy shots, or whatever info we have. They are never labelled as official or anything like that, and it's pretty obvious that they are renderings, right? It's patronising to tell the readers "by the way, this isn't real" every time we use one.

It's all down to understanding the nuances of journo-speak.

"Exclusive" means "we made it up".

"Sources inside xxxxxx" means "we made it up".

"First drive" means "we've ridden in it".

"Funky" means "it's ugly but we don't want to lose advertising revenue".
