T****rs on rounderbouts

I personally am a big fan of roundabouts when they are build well they are much better than traffic lights that make you stop automatically and often for no reason and they are for the most part easy to navigate.

so why is one day did i get cut up TWICE by some retard that got in the wrong lane firstly was i was on my way back from Gloucester approaching a roundabout on the a40 to turn right heading down to the M5 j11 and the golden valley roundabout. for anyone who knows this junction it was during the day and the lights where turned off but i think most of you will agree that this is a pretty well laid out roundabout and clearly marked. so why would you make the stupid mistake of cutting across 2 lanes to catch the junction and how could you not see me ? my GTV might not be as big as the big Merc saloon you nearly hit me with but it is bright red!

2nd was joining the M4 later in the day at j15 off the m50 route towards Cardiff not this is 2 lanes and both of them go on to the M4 so why did this pug 306 so desperately need to be in the left hand lane that he just missed taking my wing off. did they both not see me?

clearly alfa need to start making aircraft so we can avoid these lossers

Never understand the need to carve anyone up after missing an exit at roundabouts........I've 'discovered' there's no need to panic, or even go to the inconvenience of doing a u-turn, if you just continue round all the same exits/options are available all over again...and exactly where they were on your first attempt!

Exactly

Many's a time I've missed an exit and informed the vehicle occupants that "we're going around again"

I got a gold on my RoSPA test when I did that. As I was starting to turn right around the island a Transit stormed onto the rounabout on the entrance we'd just passed intent on overtaking me around the outside which would have resulted in two vehicles trying to squeeze into a one vehicle wide exit, that was avoided by going around the roundabout again and taking the required exit the next time.

Roundabouts? The standard of driving on the road is terrible. It's terrible everywhere. When fuel is so expensive why do many seem intent on using excessive speed on really unsuitable surburban roads, especially at the time when kids are likely to be making their way home?

The drop in standards on the roads just reflects the drop in standards and the cult of me that's prevalent everywhere else?

Try roundabouts in southern Italy!

My in-laws live in a small town just outside Salerno, and roundabouts are just being introduced, and they are meant to follow the same rules as here, BUT....it is anarchy. No one gives way to anyone else, and frankly looking to see who is on the roundabout or joining it is forbidden. And one of the roundabouts is outside the rail station and pedestrians casually stroll across, through the traffic without looking at what the cars are doing. (I don't mean across the entry lanes, I mean across the middle of the roundabout itself.)

I mange to generate a few startled looks when I blast the horn when people cut e up and generally get the rules all wrong.

I always thought roundabout where pretty simple though there are some exeption anyone familiar with the jiratary system at hangar lane in london wlll know that when they first layed it out people where so confuse that a local radio station call in made a catch frase on it "where are you being jirated today?"

i get the problem with speed in urban areas i live in cheltenham and the number of traffic lights are ridiculous but its not just speed some drivers spacial awareness is just appauling and last time i chacked blind people weren't aloud to drive!

Local councils dont help though, there always used to be a rule on smaller roundabouts of left lane to turn left or straight on and right lane to turn right or anything right of 12 o clock, now in some towns one roundabout you need to be in left lane to go straight, then the right then the left again....
Unless you know the area your gonna end up in the wrong lane at some point.

Mind I still shout at people who get it wrong

Yeah its confusing because often these mini roundabouts are put in to replace traffic light where its completly unsuitable theres a fairly new one in gloucester on route to the docks and it a total blind coner even if you are a good driver and tou stop and give way to the right tou can so the clown till they are on the round about and its to late
Accident waiting to happen that one still even if the lanes are weird ive yet to find a roundabout where gou use the right hand lane to turn left and cut up every car i. The left and mindle lanes!

Try driving round Swindon, the Magic Roundabout is a wonder to behold when it comes to inept town planning, 5 mini roundabouts in a circle, then put pedestrian crossings within 10 metres of every exit!!!

Even better, it was within 200 metres of my old cop shop and 50 metres from the fire station. Blues and twos are no good when traffic can't get out of the way!

Mind you, head to Cornwall, global heart of the twin mini roundabout!

Nobody in Leicester appears to understand the concept of lanes on a roundabout. Every f*****g day some muppet cuts in front of me when going from one lane to another and back again rather than following their lane round. When I beep at them they look at me with a "What's he beeping for?" look on their face. F***wits!

I had a motorcycle student who couldn't grasp the correct procedure for roundabouts even though he had held his car licence for 20+ years so I made him do 54 roundabouts in just over 2 hours of riding. I think he will never ever take a wrong lane or cut people up ever again

Nobody in cheltenham seems to understand how to drive a f**king car period! honestly it like people forget how to drive as soon as they pass the sign! If anything we could do with a few more mini roundabouts the crappy thing round here is traffic lights

If feel your pain over traffic lights. Leicester has an average of 11 sets per mile, one of the highest in the country. Not surprisingly the place is gridlocked most of the time because none of them are in sequence. The council claim it's to make the roads safer, but that's the same council that spent £5.4 million on a new park and ride system that hardly anyone uses!

Had one today.

The big roundabout at Egham/Staines, joining it from A30 heading east. My exit, following the A30 to J13 on M25 and thence towards Staines, was at about 10 o'clock from where I joined, so I was properly in the left hand lane.

Off I went, past the exit to Windsor, not cutting into the roundabout-avoiding slip round from Windsor (full of cars anyway) and became conscious that a large Merc, which had been on my right at the entry to the roundabout, was on my quarter expecting me to back off and let him cut me up. Of course I didn't, kept my line and saw him give me a WTF gesture as he swerved into the exit road behind me....

So a cheery wave from me, and a a gentle exploitation of the GQV's Dynamic mode and he was a small speck in the rear view mirror

I live right by a roundabout and have to use it several times a day

Worst thing that ****es me off is people not knowing that the little stalk on the left of their steering wheel column INDICATES to other motorists where they might be heading. It's not rocket science!!!

From my experience, you have 1 of 4 scenarios:

1. no one on the roundabout, so you go
2. someone coming from the right, so you wait, they indicate round the roundabout and you merge behind them
3. you wait for the person to your right, they indicate round yet turn off at your exit, with their right hand indicator still flashing away
4. you wait for the person to your right, they indicate left to take the exit you're sitting at, yet they continue round

Why is it so hard for people to simply navigate these things!?

In my experience people think indicators are an optional extra! Like a fashon statement
