Text alerts & Smartphones

Maybe I've been unlucky but I seem to surrounded by people who think its cool to have the following alert when they get a text message

"A message from the dark side" in the voice of Yoda...

FFS get a ****ing life its no longer cool to have a mobile phone... every **** has one ... so I dont need to know you have just received a text message...

There's all kinds of beeps and squeaks etc coming out of them these days, most annoying

I don't like naff beeps/tones.

You'd think I'd have Jamiroquai or something on my BB but it just has a very 'ambient' ringtone and different (non-annoying) beeps for different messages.

I used to have a really loud shouty message tone. It said 'you've got a ****ing message!'

Certainly not cool when it goes off in the middle of a packed shop

Good rant, just to add to it, why the heck do people need to have their ringtone so loud ? all you hear is bloody phones going off with all kinds of noises and it really is a pain in the ears.

My phone barks at me when any of my family members call.

It's just a warning, really.

mine's always on mute at work, but angled in such a way that i can see an incoming call or text, without it disturbing anyone. And if i miss a call...it's only going to be by a couple of minutes. It's hardly the end of the world.

I got rid of my smartphone and got a dumbphone I can speak to people and receive/send texts ... I dont have text alerts ... if its important phone me... I proabably wont answer it anyway !

Why do people still think its cool and amazing that they're on a mobile? Get real, even my dogs got a mobile now!

And another thing... I hate pillocks who stand behind you in a queue and say, "Hello", then you turn round because you think they're addressing you, then realise they've got a Bluetooth growth on their ear, and they look at you smugly as if to say, "yeah, look at me, I'm so important I can't use my hands in a Post Office, and couldn't possibly wait another ten minutes to make this call in a more discreet way"

whoever invented mobile phones wants shooting. for every 1 time i've found mine useful, there's been 50,000 times when i've wanted to smash the ****ing thing to pieces. i hate them

Smart phone owners moved on from this about 6 years ago.

Just change friends - its easier.

Any phone I have is always set to ring normal, and have the default message tone. TBH though I normally have my phone on silent, as I cannot stand being on a train with bloody phones ringing all the time. There is a time and place for phone conversations and sat next to me at 8:00AM in the morning before I have had enough caffeine is NOT the time!

Mines on silent permanently. I check it periodically and reply/return calls when needed. People think i'm mad, that i don't have my finger on the pulse.
On the contrary, i'm actually able to check my pulse should i need to because i dont have a f****** phone in my hands the entire day!!

At the cash desk of the local filing station this morning. Guy infront of me is trying to pay, telling the cashier his mileage, he's using a fuelcard, and trying to hold the phone to his ear with his shoulder. OK so far but he's not talking just listening to it ringing out so he made the call as he got to the front of the queue. What was so urgent that couldn't wait 2 minutes until he was back outside.
On a similar rant every pump has a notice saying mobile phones should be turned off while refueling. I believe this is because the radio waves could in some circumstances create a spark which would ignite the fumes. So how many people not only don't turn the phone off but will continue to make a call. I don't want to be at the next pump when yours goes up so please obey the rules just once in your life.

I have smashed up 4 mobiles and 2 land phones.

I don't like phones. They don't like flying.
