The Apple Store ...

Right, MrsChris has decided that for her next phone she wants an iPhone 4S, I've continually said no as I believe they are overpriced rubbish ... but today I thought as a surprise for xmas I'd buy her one ...

... so at lunchtime today I thought I'd just pop down to the Apple Store in Covent garden and pick on up ... or so I thought.

Now take into account this is the first time I have entered the Apple store because from the outside they look like pretensious soul vaccums filled with "hipsters" (the people rather than the clothing) ... so I walk in a quickly survey the surroundings looking for something resembling a shelf with iPhones on or some sort of customer service desk to go to ... hmmm no luck all that I can see is various apple products nailed to the ridiculously spacious desks.

so I went up to one of the oiks and asked him how I do I buy something in this shop? so he asks what do I want (at which point I'm thinking I've cracked it ), I explain that I think Apple products are rubbish but MrsChris wants an iPhone 4S 16Gb ... at which point he gestures to the queue outside the door of people waiting for them ...

Seriously??? WTF??? they've been out for about 6 weeks now and people are still queuing ... he explained that I can go online at 9pm tonight to the apple website and I should be able to reserve one to be picked up tomorrow, I asked if he could reserve one for me now to pick up tomorrow and apparently he can't

I'm just completely bemused by this approach to selling their products ... I suppose in reality this is more of a WTF than a rant ... but I'm setting this up for when the reservation fails at 9pm tonight

as I said it's not for me ... MrsChris normally has such good taste but in this department he's let me down, let the family down and most importantly let herself down.

Yes I'm a bit gutted now, if I'd RTFM in the first place it would have all gone ok (although it is a bit of a bonkers way of doing business if you ask me)

I agree, but they seem to think that long queues of iSheep is good for business - and it seems to work so who can blame them for engineering a system to keep it happening?
I blame the iSheep - no self respect

(just to be clear, I use a few very good apple products and have done since 1992, but I will NOT queue up for one )

Not Happy

So here im in the apple store, firstly I asked one of the oils on the ground floor where I go for reservations, he sends me to the desk upstairs ... Ok so I go up to the desk and explain I've got a reservation ... He says that I have to go and join the queue outside, so I explain again that I have a reservation, but yes I have to go out of the shop and join the frisking queue ... He then explains that once I'm St the front of that queue I can join the inside queue!!!!!

Seriously wtf!!!! So I go to the outside queue and have a chat with the oik controlling that queue and after a bit of persuasion from me I manage to jump the outdoor queue and go straight inside ... Which is where I am now

when I got my iPhone 3GS a couple of years back I wanted to love it, but pretty much from the first day I was disappointed with it mainly because it is completely inflexible, basically you can only use it with itunes which none of my other products work with and having to maintain 2 music collections is just a PITA. Coupled with the fact that on a 3G signal you can only download things smaller than 20meg and only recently have they offered a decent tethering solution ...

Also do know how "mac" people are always slagged off windows because after a couple of years it becomes really slow ... well the same seems to be true with iPhones ... although this is probably just a ploy from apple corp to make you buy the latest and greatest version

So I don't think it's cool to slag off iPhones, out of my personally experience I think they are overpriced for what they are.

I was too busy in the second queue slagging of the queue on here ... to be fair once I got to the front it was fairly slick ... so now I'm £500 poorer

Let me put it into perspective for you:

I can name a dozen plus folk on here who own an i-Phone, strangely enough out of the many other folk on here that I 'know' - I have no idea of what kind of phone they use, doesn't that tell you something?
