Why Oh Why......?
It's my big housework day on a Monday usually unless something really important crops up. WHY did Hubby decide today would be a good day for a Virgin Media guy to come round and drill etc...the ONE day I'm in until the school run WITHOUT TELLING ME? He works from home (as do I), but could have chosen ANY day and told me at 7.30 this morning and it happens to be my youngest son's birthday also so wanted to get on cleaning the house thoroughly early then baking a few nice things for a Birthday tea as some of the family will be coming over. The guy was asking me all about what needs doing as Hubby on the phone. I DON'T KNOW, FFS! I've lost a few hours out of today and am FURIOUS...still trying to get stuff done and have to go and get a Birthday cake! I could've done without noise, mess and pratting about today

Hmm having had virgin for 6 months now I think I'll correct your sentence
Very expensive with a crappy router which can't handle more than one think connected to it wirelessly or more than 2 with wires. Drops out most days and is slower than my 20mb broadband even though now we have 30mb. Cost 6.50 extra a month for an extra box. £180 fine for leaving the contract before it's up £20 "Admin charge to swap names on the account...... Installed by a monkey who couldn't even tidy the wires...blah blah blah ... so give him hell as it is a ****e system. Oh and they blocked 0ofer in the other day too and then sent him a ****ty letter demanding money for a damaged van .

Ahhh I see you've got the crappy version ... I've got the 50Meg and it is awesome, although I did bin their router and replaced it with a better one (still got sky for TV though ... just to annoy Nev more than any other reason)

I bought this one Buffalo Wireless-N300 Cable Router / Access Point | Ebuyer.com for about £20 ... actually I bought 3 so that I could use them also as wireless extenders in the house ... which is probably why they're out of stock now!!!

The 50mb system has a seperate modem and router (connected together via ethernet) , I thought the 30mb had a combined modem and router???

Yes it is combined. It just uses teh same cable as the one in the back of the VM/box or in your case skybox. Will the buffalo not have this?

Nope, it only accepts ethernet ... it all depends if the "problem" with your box is with the "modem" part or the "router" part, if it is the "router" part you could log into the box and switch off all the "router" parts (e.g. the wireless stuff) and the connect the buffallo box to it and use that as your router ...
... this may or may not work. Alternatively you could set you VM/box onto a main timer and switch it off/on every day (say at 3am) which will give it a hard reset and might make it a bit more reliable through the day
