Boxing I Lost my Temper

We had Jan's brother and his Mrs over on Saturday for a bit of a bash for Jan's dads birthday on Sunday.

Nowt wrong with that I hear you all say.

I did a nice three course meal for us all up to my usual standard, we then retired to the lounge for a few beers and a bit of a chat

Jan's brother is a right ****** and behaves like my place is his own private hotel

He decided after his fifth bottle of MY Peroni that the service was a "Bit Slack round here"

So he takes himself to the bar, on his way out he picked up the shower shine spray we have filled with water for training the Bengals and sprayed it right into Jans face

I thought for about 2 seconds and followed him into the kitchen the conversation was something like this.

"Dave that was way out of order, try something like that again and you will leave here horizontal"

"Tony, it's brother and sister stuff just chill LAD"

"She might be your sister but she is my wife, pull any more **** like that and I you will end up in a lot of pain"

At this point he realises I'm serious and I'm not going to put up with any of the **** he's been handing out for years

I finished my drink and headed for bed and had a really peacefull nights sleep but woke up on the morning to find out

He had a migrane all night because I was a bully and he felt threatened

Oh dear too sad, so bad never mind

Insult my wife, my soul mate and you will end up being punched

As you can tell I've only just calmed down

Enjoy life there are no re runs

I feel your pain (been there, done that, very similar story ).....

However, you plied him with alcohol, so he lost some of his inhibitions
and reverted to childlike acts..... followed by an, obviously, alcohol
induced 'migraine' attack (hangover).

The guy obviously has problems.

Solutions?

No more than one bottle of beer, for him, before you start reminding everyone
of his alcohol related 'migraine' attacks and how they can be brought on by
alcohol (plenty of web references).
Migraines: Headaches: Merck Manual Home Edition
Ask him if he takes any medication for it and suggest Proprananol as a starter
(you are showing REAL concern now )
After his first Alcoholic drink... bring him a very large glass of water to drink
as it will help dilute the effect of the alcohol and reduce the chances of another
attack.
Keep harping on at him with your concerns over his health problem and his need
to see a doctor.
----------------------------
This one's more likely to make matters worse..... but
Modify a spray bottle so that the water fires backwards and make sure
only he tries it (I'm certain he will )

Sounds like your beauf (beau-frère brother-in-law) has alcohol issues.

Organise a US-style family intervention to show your concern.

Keep clear of most of them folks I does, with their inclination to misbehaving acting like they are still 'Laddoes'.

I only favour mixing with those very refined Ex. Squaddies : whom I trust implicitly for their moderate behaviour in all things. Although I must add my daughters hubby is a very decent chap, so it's mainly blood line family members that we entertain at home, with just one or two exceptions who have passed the test to be always welcome?

Problem is with more than a few people, knowing how to behave when they have had their brains steeped in alcohol? Take a lot of training some folk do. Good Luck HM for the future with your family relationships.

Punch him on the face

He'll soon forget about his migraine

In all seriousness I sympathise. My 31 year old brother 'shows off' like this sometimes. It's childish and stupid.

Seriously though the guy sounds a t***! Get in some cheap alcohol free beer next time and hide the peroni.

Not sure about the "alcohol issues" TBH. Sounds like he's just an annoying brother who hasn't grown up.

It's always a good ploy to blame it on the booze

My former brother-in-law (wife's sister's husband) used to do that sort of thing. Picking his wife's sisters up and turning them upside down and so on because it was reeeaaally funny. He did it with my wife (before she was my wife) in my presence once so I got hold of his ear and twisted it until he put her down. He initially thought I was joking and would stop but once I had it twisted to about 180 degrees and was about to change hands and go for a full 360 he put her down and never did it again. It's bullying, no more, no less.

I didn't know you kept tigers.

Oh, HM..he sounds a PITA. If there's one thing I hate, it's when someone trys to 'take over' in your home. Sounds like a hangover rather than a migraine. Buy him a bag of chips and cheap plonk next time, the ungrateful b*gger!

TBH folks it was nothing to do with the Ale, the man is just a bell end, like DD says he tries to take over our HOME every time he stays with us.

I was talking to Jan about it last night and she reckons he'll show a bit more respect now he knows I won't put up with his ****.

Keithy they might only be little but they think they're tigers

It doesn't matter if he did or didn't have too much to drink.

The idea is to make him think that you think he's an alcho.

Get him some info for local AA meetings.

**** with his head.

One of my sister in laws can be difficult to put it mildly but has NEVER set foot in our new house all the years we've been here (was spitting feathers when we bought it). Loved to make sly little comments. She used to say I'd lost weight when I hadn't, 'joked' I was getting fat when pregnant, hint things I buy are too expensive and question the cost of my new car habit (I gave that up anyway).

I'd still go for the booze and migraine angle but tone it (which should be easy for you... Tone )
down a bit. Subtle hints and lots of concern about the migraine he suffered.....

But you know him best Good Luck.

I hope Jan's OK with it all

I don't think you lost your temper at all HM. The more I think of it, the more I admire your self-control.

I've been very much inward looking since I met Jan because I had a ferocious temper when we first met, so I deliberatly looked at what kicked me off and why, as a result managed to curb my temper for Jan as she really hates confrontaion and conflict.

But there are time she understands now, that if I'm going to pop it's for a very good reason and she can't completely tame me

Like I say MH a few tears ago I'd have just flew at him and landed a few well placed punches
