Why can't people read the road?

Exited the M6 at J7 today as normal.

Two lanes on the slip road merge into one. It's easy to know which, as there's a ****ing huge arrow in the right hand lane, pointing to the left hand lane.

Bird in front of me in the left hand lane gets to the merge, indicates right, says thank you to the bemused van behind her and moves into the right hand lane, only to have to come back over to the left immediately.

Why can't people read what's written on the road?? I wanted to pull her over and very gently explain, slowly, using lickle words, what she had done, as you can bet she is totally oblivious!!!

I can cope if they are just dim as I work on the basis that everyone is an idiot until proven otherwise. I can't handle it when they do something stupid, then look at me like I'm an idiot because I didn't guess that they were going to indicate left then drive up the kerb on the right. If they start swearing and waving their arms about when it's their fault, I resort to hand signals.

I did - she didn't notice. Too busy moving on to cut people up on the roundabout

No such thing as standardised driving skills out there on the front line.In fact I would suggest that the driving test needs revising up to Military D&M content/quality imho?

There are some idiots about! On a local busy roundabout, it escapes some people's attention that the lane markings have changed recently.

The standard of driving on our roads is terrible. I've hardly driven over the last 6 weeks and I can't say I've missed it.

It is terrible. I've seen a number of foolish things in the last few days alone.

Its all relative really.

When I'm back in the UK I find the driving so tame and controlled compared to the driving in Qatar. As for roundabouts, here people just take the lane with the least number of cars regardless of where they want to go. Most roundabouts are 3 lanes so you can imagine its pretty crazy when the person in the outside lane wants to go all the way around the roundabout and most others are trying to go straight on

My motto for Qatar is 'it doesnt matter how badly I drive because nearly everyone else is worse'

There's a big roundabout near where I work, with one lane through the middle to go straight on - to save explaining, it's this one.
I come in from either the West or the North and some of the idiotic manoeuvres I see there pretty much every day are staggering.

Staying in the left lane of three and missing two exits to take the third or even fourth isn't uncommon.
Setting off from one of the sets of lights and veering between two or three lanes is almost a daily occurrence.
Trying to turn right onto the road that goes through the middle is one of the slightly more rare ones, but it happens regularly.
And then there's the people that completely miss the traffic lights altogether and go straight through - I saw a van narrowly miss an accident with a Micra a couple of days ago because the Micra went through on red. Thankfully the van driver had only just pulled off from another set of lights so he had time to stop.

I don't think the road markings are particularly confusing, as long as you know where you want to be going. Take a look - zoom in on that satellite image and they're pretty clear.

It beggars belief sometimes.

Sounds like pretty much every African/ME country I've been to. Libya was a very special case, the drivers there are either flat out, or they're stopped. This includes when entering roundabouts.
