Thank you DVL fricking A!
I hate going to the post office to renew my Daylight robbery fee Car Tax as I always take the insurance schedule rather than the certificate or the previous year MOT etc etc.
As I result I now always renew online. Rang to do this only to be told I don't have an MOT. Yes I do, it is in my hand.
Dragged my sorry ar$e down to the post office as I suspected that the Department of Vindictive Legalised Armed-robbery had pulled my MOT off the database as it was due to expire (19th August) only to be told that my MOT was not valid!
Why?
Because I want to pay for my tax (in advance) from 1 September, on the 10th of August and guess what - my MOT is not valid on the day that the forking tax is DUE - bu99er the fact that they have it 20 days in advance .
If my MOT expired on 1 September I could still buy 12 months road fraud licence and drive around with no flippin MOT
Donkey-holes, the lot of 'em
* on an related note I am pleased to inform Mr Gibbins that order has been restored to the rant room with a Keithy/Keithyboy double act!

Come on get your MOT sorted and stop worrying about it.
Then you can tax it online as well, as you prefer.
They are trying to make the roads safer so if you car sails through the MOT all is well.
In this mad crazy world we live in there is a lot more to get upset about than this.

That is half the cause of the annoyance
The Spider decided to throw a wobbly with the roof. So I need it to go to a half decent specialist, preferably not my local Alfa Stealer who will charge like a wounded bull. Also it is cam-belt o-clock and I wanted to roll the whole lot into one lengthy trip back to Newbury and do it all in one go, roof check, cam-belt and service/MOT. As I didn't have the time to get that sorted I thought I would at least get the tax done - plod will ANPR check you for tax but I don't think they check MOTs (maybe?) so to avoid the tax expiring and then having to drive 100 odd miles in fear of getting my collar felt I thought "tax it first" - FAIL!

Schedule 2 - Exempt vehicles
22. - (1) A vehicle is an exempt vehicle [from VED] when it is being used solely for the purpose of;
(a) submitting it (by previous arrangement for a specified time on a specified date) for a compulsory test, a vehicle identity check, a vehicle weight test or a reduced pollution test, or
(b) bringing it away from any such test or check.
So yep.
However, I think you are all deliberately missing the point here!

Come off it! The MOT must be valid for at least the first day of the period you are buying the road fund licence for i.e. 1st Sept 2011 . What I have done in the past is purchased a 6 month period so the tax and MOT are not due around the same time and you get a bit of breathing space and a lot less stress

I don't fancy a 150 mile trip with no road tax - you know how shirty I got when I was pulled for "no insurance" . More to the point I will probably want to drop it off and spend a night there as they ain't gonna manage a cam belt etc etc in one day.
Does anyone remember that this is the RANT room, not the "smart arse solutions room"!

why? You are perfectly legal to do so.
Try ranting about something that isn't so straight forward then Admittedly though KB had a similar rant about his volvo the other week and got similar responses

I think I'll go and start a "People who don't read what you post properly" rant thread!
That suit you 'Who'ell811?
Just glad to see all my fellow AO-ers have superhuman MOT/Tax/Car insurance organisational skills
