Sounds like one stupid individual to be honest. You can't judge the entire police force on it................
Very sad though. Really wonder how it happened.

2 police dogs that died in the car
i dont know the exact details
but from what i have heard off the news, is an off duty police dog handler left his 2 german shepherds in his car where they died because of the heat
there isnt much that truly upsets me but this did
i just dont want to imagine what those poor dogs went through

well, hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they almost certainly sufferred a slow and lingering death.
It would start with 'general overheating'
then when the whole physiological body of the animal went into meltdown, this is what happens.
firstly, the bloodstream is affected by the temperature of the blood.
then there is not enough oxygen getting to the brain (do dogs even HAVE a brain??????)
Then the internal organs start to fail due to lack of oxygen. (rapid bulid op of crystalising particles in the bloodstream)
Then your kidneys fail
Then your brain starts to falter due to massive dehydration (your body is tring to force it into non esssential parts.
so then your brain isnt working properly, so you by a BM. then you die.

Unbelievable that people still do this but a copper??? I hope they throw the book at him but he'll probably just get a ticking off. I had to have one of my dogs put down through illness earlier this year and that's distressing enough. I actually smashed the window of a car with a dog in it on a hot day a couple of years ago, which was clearly in distress, got it out of the car and called the RSPCA. I was quite prepared to get nicked for vandalising the car, but when the RSPCA arrived some 35 minutes later the car's owners still hadn't come back to the car. The dog would surely have been dead by then.

Oh yeah happens often because we have very hot sun 9 out of 12 months of the year. Dogs and children die in cars. Some people are just not aware it can happen till it happens.
The woman that left her kids in the car and went to the casino I think is in jail now.

I think the copper should definately be prosecuted! They are supposed to treat and respect those dogs like work colleagues, as a dog lover I was disgusted to hear of this news!

thanks for that
but i meant more in a psychological way. german shepherds have an average iq of 65 and are intelligent animals.
such a sad thing to happen
i would have no problem breaking a window on somebodys car to stop a dog from dieing
not that i ever would leave my dog in the car but if i did i would rather they smashed all of the windows than my dog die

V6 is that your dog in the pic mate? I love german shepherds ever since I seen my nans one years ago, they are a true testament to the "mans best friend" quote.
Never realised their IQ was so high though! I think me ma's westie has learning difficulties going by that figure then

Some breeds are more intelligent than others. I had a beautiful Samoyed which sadly I had to put to sleep a couple of months ago, incredibly intelligent dog (but very single minded and hard to train) but always full of life and 'communicative' - I now understand what it means when people say they can 'talk to' and understand their dogs. In comparison we also have an Old English Sheepdog, easy to train, much more well behaved but daft as a brush and much harder to 'read'.

100% agree, if he is not prosecuted what message is that sending to people? the fact that the car was left outside the Police HQ is a disgrace, means he clearly got there and went in without a thought for the dogs.
Well done Coolsociety, You did the right thing and probably saved the dogs life.

Can't say i agree...
Mistakes happen...I don't think he should go without anything...but I also don't believe the book should be thrown at him.
Its very sad, but having said that he wouldn't have intentionally done this.

Even a child knows that you don't leave a dog in a hot car, even for a few minutes. For a grown man, who's job involves special canine training, who is supposed to care for that dog as his own, to make such a stupid error of judgement is unthinkable.
The man should never be allowed to look after a dog again, at work, or at home.
