Nev you're some what missing the point.
WE here in Great Britannia (rulers of the universe) have the RIGHT to have CHEAP EVERYTHING!!
WE have the RIGHT to live comfortably and become fat off the back of the rest of the world.
I as a BRITISH citizen, therefore DEMAND to have cheaper fuel as it is against my British rights (Britons have more rights than other inferior nations) to pay such EXTORTIONATE fuel bills.
you are in france, your views count for nothing.
I assume your are extracting the urine? If so if not

Re: Another rise!!!
On my way out last night I took note of the price of Diesel at my local Texaco .. 126.9, which I thought was a bit steep ... on the way home, however, it had gone up to 128.9!!!! wtf

By and large, the British lack backbone and will just carry on grumbling and paying up

I bought a bike recently, first one for 25 years. All I can say is that there are a lot more hills and headwinds than I remember......

Of course we could all stop buying petrol. Phone work and say you can't afford to pay the fuel costs to get in.
If everyone did it then things would HAVE to change, otherwise the economy would go into meltdown (even more than it already is doing)
But like I said, we in Britain lack backbone to do anything of the sort.

Re: Another rise!!!
im going to stick half a tank of bio diesel in on the way home. half regular diesel, half a tank of bio. will stick a bottle of fuel system cleaner in at the same time and i may just get away with it. will save me a goodly amount.
but yes agree that most of this country lacks the drive to get off their arses. shame. personaly, if i dont turn up for work cos of fuel, i lose my job. there is only two of us working there lol.....

But of course in that comparison we have two variables...the rise in fuel cost (based in dollars) and the depreciation of the £ against the Euro.....double whammy for us....
I think a more interesting approach is to look at the cost analysis....for ease, lets consider those halcyon days when petrol cost "only" £1/litre (when I started driving you got 4 gallons to the £ - but thats another sob-story..) Figures are approximations for illustrative purposes only...
At £1 litre, with international oil prices hitting $100/barrel, we paid 30p for the fuel, 70p tax. so in a sensible world, if the oil price went up say 20%, as it has - we'd pay 30p x 1.2 = 36p+70p - instead the increase is at least twice that. Of course UK Gov isn't sensible so rips us off proportionately...... I'm sure that with the dire predictions - driven by international speculators - of oil hitting $200/barrel we are in for a very rough - and it will have to be slow and economical - ride. If the Gov weren't intent on robbing the captive motorist blind to pay for the latest computerisation / Olympic Games / etc cost over-run, it could freeze fuel duty and even with a $200 barrel we'd be paying £1.30 a litre - tough but manageable.

Ah yes the good 'ole days, I remember them well ! Snag was in 1966 I was earning £ 3.50 a week as an apprentice so it was still relatively expensive. Too thick to work it out but would be nice to know what £3.50 in 1966 would equate to now and how would that relate to fuel costs as a percentage.
Back to topic though, it's simple, we are being ripped off and I can't see it getting any better.

When they can't afford to get to work and pay their mortgages then there will be riots in the street.
Just out of interest how would I go about organising a riot?

Re: Another rise!!!
I think its coming - fuel goes up so does everything else.
The majority of people could now probably stay at home and have just as much free cash if they were on the dole.
This country is going down hill rapidly.
the etra rise in fuel is made far worse by the VAT that keep getting added on each time the cost goes up - cap the VAT at a certain level so as soon as fuel hits a £1 a litre then VAT is no longer added - just another solution to ease the burden on us poor old working people

Thing is though they were probably protesting against Gordon Brown. If we get rid of him they know they will get him back in Scotland.

Re: Another rise!!!
saudi arabia are upping their oil production by 4% next month, that may affect price.
Goldman sachs now estimate $141 by the start of 09.
We've only got goldman to blame, all this speculation is giving fund managers an excuse to push the price higher.
On the up side,
I own oil and gold stocks, so i like the rises

Re: Another rise!!!
We have a green tax being added to the taxes on our gas here. More taxes, I guess I'll have to dust off my bike and peddle in to work, hoping I'm not killed on the way

Re: Another rise!!!
I can see them number of people on benefits rising. People will realise that they are better off not working and staying at home, rather than spending a fortune on fuel to get to work.
Its costing me around £200 a month at present. My round trip is 40 miles each day, and I do around 50 miles each weekend.
