Good, 6 weeks after the budget the media have finally got hold of it. Better late than never though.

Re: New Road Tax rules

People don't seem to want to believe what is happening. Told my friend about it as he was in the market for a new second hand car. He went a bought a 53 reg Volvo gas guzzler and still seems unconcerned. Maybe the reality will sink in next year at tax time......

Thats the typical head in sand approach that makes the motorist an easy target for taxation..

Re: New Road Tax rules

i thought the whole point of the 7 year cut off was not to penalise people with older cars who cant afford to replace with a newer more eco friendly car this government really are a bunch of ******s, i blame all the f"£$ers who voted them in

im still getting my tvr next year though, ill just have to get my moneys worth from it, and use it at every opportunity, a weekend car doing limited mileage and therefore not harming the environment as much as mr mondeo man doing 200k a year just isnt a viable option, i will just have to use it everyday, that is what the government intended with these new rules, isnt it?

Re: New Road Tax rules

Why has it taken so long for the media to report on this tax, we've been talking about it on here for weeks. They can't be so out of touch surely.
Hardly anyone I've told about it knew the position they were being put in by this extra tax. A couple have even said "no you've got it wrong mate". My mate has just bought an 03 plate Grand Cherokee because he thought he was safe, he's gutted.

Well the government wouldn't be doing it they thought that treasury would loose out, so the majority of motorists must be worse off.

Sorry if that sounds a bit cynical but we can't expect anything less from Nu labour.

Re: New Road Tax rules

if they can retrospectively tax our cars, why can't we retrospectively vote out the current Government?

Re: New Road Tax rules

just been reading this on times online,

Five million drivers to pay more road tax - Times Online

what interests me is this paragraph,
"The Government has decided to soften the blow for drivers of preMarch 2006 cars which emit more than 225g/km. Next year, they will move into Band K and pay £300, up from £210 this year. But in 2010, they will move into Band L, paying £430, or Band M, paying £455."
has anyone else heard of this yet? this will be some comfort (if its true!) for anyone next year with a v6.

That has always been the case, there was always going to be an incremental increase.

I cant remember the ministers name but some labour git was quoted as saying Half of new car buyers will be better off and a THIRD of current owners will be too, soooo 2 thirds of current car owners are being shafted.
