My neither, Gary.

But this info can be useful for someone who might get one... we're thinking about that for 2009.

Dealers never fail to disappoint.

They set ever lower expectations, and consistently fail to achieve them.

*sigh*

test drove a 159 yesterday 2.2...

thinking of getting a ti 2.2 in black. Interesting thread with your issues. Haven't come across the same issue on an aussie alfa forum, most people in Aus seem to have had no problems at all??

Re: 159, Brera & new Spider Experiences

If you look at the numbers there aren't that many problems here either, and most of those were with early cars. I'm not saying they don't happen, but your post is an indication of how things can look worse than they actually are on a forum like this.

2.2 fuel consumption. 4 adults up, sticking to all speedlimits (30,40,50 & 60) over 24miles = 34mpg

Spider LE

Re: 159, Brera & new Spider Experiences

I'm a 'moderate for my Spider 2.2 LE'

I've had the car a month now and after 5 days had total roof failiure, a girlfriend and interior covered in oil and and a dodgy steering noise... not what I'd expect from any new car let alone an Alfa.

However the probs are fixed and save for a for rattles the car has'nt missed a beat in a thousand miles, though I'd expect nothing less.

I love the car and despite having the knowledge I have now of the car and its probelms, I would still go buy one.

If you want a head turning, design masterpiece that goes well, feels good, is comfy on long runs, is very quiet for a convertible gets you brownie points with the ladies... go get one...

If however you want a bombproof, reliable, pocket rocket with good fuel consumption and great residuals... avoid (like the plague)...

Alfa Brera

Well Happy Re: 159, Brera & new Spider Experiences

First Brera (06) rejected and replaced by Alfa by new 08 Reg which is a late 07 model. So far no problems. Long may it continue. First one was a complete lemon and so hoping for better things with beauty No. 2

Our Spider was the same at first - disappeared after a few miles. Was grease all over the place when it was delivered (they'd de-greased and polished the bodywork of course, but the mechanical bits - and interior, including air vents! - were still a bit greased up) and we assumed it was that burning off... completely gone now.

Re: 159, Brera & new Spider Experiences

OK, have gone for 'no problems' this time. I posted before for the loan Spider 2.2 we had while waiting for the LE, which had a few niggles, but the Spider LE is so far pretty much perfect. Seems a bit better bolted together than other Spiders I've driven, still prone to the shakes of course, but better. Done very few miles yet, but so far nothing's broken or fallen off - so not bad for an Alfa!

13.5% of the small sample here are really not happy and less than half are fully satisfied....those are BIG figures. Worrying Mr Boss man ARUK

Re: 159, Brera & new Spider Experiences

Only had one issue with my Spider which was plug falling off rear of A/C unit, dealer excellent, but now after 9 months the paint is falling off.......a tiny stone chip develops into a 10mm hole down to the undercoat, in this day and age really poor and new car requested.

How can someone produce a car this stunning in appearance but have the basics let it down?
