Ralf's new job

A guy I used to work with has phoned me up.. wants to give me job

I'm in a bit of a dilemma so I thought I would farm it out to the Alfisti hordes.

My present job is "okay". It's comfy, quite glamorous (I get to travel around the world a fair bit) and I'm reasonably good at it. Wages aren't great though and there's no perks at all. I struggle sometimes, to be honest.

The new job is rather dull and "technical" *by comparison*. It'll take me away from what I like doing, though I'll be able to do it and make a good fist of it. Also, it pays 20% more and comes with a works motor (a GT is "on the list") not to mention that I'll be working with some former colleagues who were great and will make the working environment itself pleasant and fun.

So.. my dilemma is, should I stay or should I go..? The new place is definitely more "enticing" but what will it be like when the novelty of the car and cash has worn off? On the other hand, I can't afford my present job and I'll be out of here in the next 12 months anyway.. but moving to something similar.

Dunno what to do...

Re: Ralf's new job

Ralf

I voted take the money but I have to say that you have to enjoy your job really to appreciate the extra cash eh ??

I changed jobs for a £2ph rise and the prospect of more and getting back together with some of the 'old gang' who used to be here. So far they haven't returned as there's a 'rate war' going on in the Oil and Gas industry at the moment !! That's good for all our pockets but this office is lacking 'the crack' that is used to have !!

The only saving grace for me is that I can give a weeks notice and move on somewhere else !! (And further away from the potential - once the Brera arrives - moneypit that weaklings like me call AutoDelta !!)

And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Nomes when I lay my vengeance upon you.

Re: Ralf's new job

If you can't afford your present job you've gooter try the new one.

IMHO its your work colleagues which give you a level of job satisfaction - so what have you got to loose. Even if it turns out cr*p you just have to move again, but in the meatime you get a nice newe car and a 20% pay increase

Re: Ralf's new job

I think the novelty of the cash never really wears off

And you should be able to trade up more easily after that, so my answer is take it

Best of luck matey!

Re: Ralf's new job

Go for the new job and if you're not liking it, go for the other one you were going to go to in a year anyway. Does that make sense? I think so!

Re: Ralf's new job

Is there any doubt?

Honestly, IMO, this is a single option question.

But, that's only me thinking...

Re: Ralf's new job

Yes.. it seems quite a no-brainer when I see other people's thoughts written down.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Re: Ralf's new job

Ralf, look at it this way - if you don't take it you'll always be wondering "what if?". And what's the worst that could happen? Like V02Max says, if it's not the right job for you just move on in 12 months like you planned to anyway A 20% pay increase and a very sexy company car can't be sniffed at either.

(You can reciprocate the advice in a minute, I'm just about to start a new thread of my own along a very similar line )

Re: Ralf's new job

Is there only 12 months left in your current job due to approaching redundancy, or other reasons. If redundancy then hang on and grab it (depending on how long you've been there, and how good a package they are likely to offer).

Re: Ralf's new job

I'm waiting for the paperworks.. Then I'll have to go through the HR thing and be properly selected. I'd have to fancy my chances but it could be that they get a better candidate once they trawl it.
