Dog licence

The feeling is that it may be a good idea to introduce the old dog licence again (not a licence just for old dogs though!)

As this was 37p before it was discontinued, what level of 'indirect taxation' should we have on careful pooch owners?

As a long time dog owner, bring it back for £10.

I'd be in favour of licensing kids too, and putting a cap on how many you can have.

by coincidence i've just got a dog license this week (as still compulsory here) and it was free. Had to have his microchip certificate and a clean bill of health from a vet.

In contrast, i've just got off the phone to enquire about getting a fishing license for the Mrs.
She has to complete 20-30 hours supervised (by a licensed fishing club) fishing, then take a test. She'll then need to take the test certificate to the authorities to get her licence at a cost of 238euros plus 40 admin fee! Mental!

There are certainly a number of parents of children at my daughters school who need this...

So the people who already do the right thing with their
dogs have to pay for a licence whilst the lawbreakers
and inconsiderates of this life carry on as they were.

Why on earth are we dreaming up more taxes for ourselves.
You may as well start a thread in the rant room now

The dog licence was scrapped for a good reason ... it didn't
work. Nothing has changed in the mean time to suggest
that it would work now other than gather income for HM
Treasury.
