If everyone's got one, and the design of the (very small) sticker is good enough, it takes away the geek-factor. I'm speaking from experience, as I've used the same method at previous (non-AO) large meets.
Mainly, it helps the shy people interact with others. It's alright for blokes like you and me, as we'd just barge in and go "Who the **** are you?"
But those who aren't quite as gregarious as that might hang back and end up not meeting anyone. I've seen it happen before.
PS: I voted "yes", obviously.

There could be an element of feeling left out for me, as I couldn't make it to MF2K11.
On a serious note, think of all the meets you've been on, and ask yourself if you recognised, met or spoke to every person... Here's a good example:
When I went to the Allams Alfa Guinness World Record attempt down in Epsom, I spoke to about five people, out of a possible 400(ish). Of those five people, three were wearing name badges, and the other two I had arranged to meet by 'phone earlier that day!
Now, I'm not the sort of bloke who's particularly backward in coming forward, so can you imagine how hard it would be for someone with crippling shyness to work out who's who?
Just an observation.

my hat says 'drunknmunky' on it.
It took tess til the next morning to work that out at monkeyfest. But she knew who I was right from the moment I walked up to her and said 'Hi, I'm munky'. That tactic seemed to work quite well with everyone else too.. though on occasion I had to say 'so... who the **** are you?' to a couple of people.

A fine and laudable tactic, which I wholeheartedly endorse.
But what if you're a bit of a shy person? Do you not get to meet anyone?

drink, then do it.
On a serious note, there was mention of putting names on monkeyfest tshirts for this reason but it was pretty unanimously decided it was a really edit idea.
And as far as I'm aware, everyone met everyone and nobody was left out.

I think we should have a sign on a stick, like the QI elephant, saying * * * *, we can put it in front of our mouths in case we say a naughty word.
You real/username can be on the back.
As to preferences, they could change after the alcohol starts to flow.

No, please no.
I hate being given a name badge to wear at events etc. There's nothing worse than someone coming over and squinting at it then saying "So, Annabella Business Manager, what do you do?". I'm pretty shy so would rather conveniently lose the name tag or hide it under my jacket and ignore people.

Whatever it is you've been smoking, pal, I want a big bag of it delivered to my office.
