Nanny Boats and Nanny Trains.
My kids call the wifes folks nanny and grandad... they call my mum 'other nan' because they've only met her once or twice.

That's why the OP used 'did' so well in the question, to give
you the opportunity to answer

Ever heard an adult say nanny?
Nanny is for the little'uns, nan is for the grown ups... its a world apart. Like Mummy and Mum.

I lost my last grandparent in 2009 , she was 'granny'. My Scottish side was also 'Grannie' but Scots spelling I never knew one grand father as he died before I was born but the other one was simply 'Grandad'.
Now I'm starting to feel sad because they've all gone

WELL !
This poll is FLAWED! (Sorry - it's a requirement on EpicSki to flaw every poll)
For readers from Norfolk, she could well be you mother's mother and your father's mother. In some parts of that region, she could even be your father's mother and your mother, in which case is she mum, gran or both?

All dead before I was born. Didn't get to call them anything, nor did they ever get mentioned. I've got a picture of all four but don't know which is which. A bit sad really

that really is quite sad
i never knew my dad's mum as she died quite young, way before i was born. my grandpa later remarried a lovely lady who i always knew as grannie. never saw them that much as they lived in north west scotland and we lived in north wales, 12 hours' drive away. my welsh 'nain & daid' lived a mile down the road and i saw them all the time. daid passed away when i was only 11 but nain lived to the ripe old age of 95. still miss them both terribly

My mom's mom I called grandma, she passed in 05 at 95. Mom's dad was grandpa and he made it to 89, he passed in 86.
My dad's mom and dad I didn't really know. His dad passed in the 60's and grandma passed in the 70's.
I am a grandma and don't want to be called that, my mom is the grandma. Our wee one is only 7 months so he's not calling me anything yet Maybe he'll pick a name for me.

Though we never met my mums mum has always been Nan.
My dads mum said that nannies were babysitters and therefore she is Grandma. My dads grandma has always been 'great' as she thought it sounded cooler than great grandma. My married in aunts and uncles even call her 'great' She's 100 in February
My mum is a 'nan' as grandma sounds old

"Granny" -- but only because she thinks it's more "little old lady"-ish than "Nan"
