The problem with pears is eating them at the right time
they need to be just past woody and just before mushy
then they are the best fruit ever... but.... until you bite
into it you don't know what you're getting.
Whereas apples are more forgiving.

So I'd have to say:
Pears 'just right' are superb... but if they're not right they're 'orrible
Apples are 99% good.... and it's easy to know what condition they're in.

Poached pears are great
Baked apples are superb

So I guess that makes me 'other'

Apples are fairly useful for pleasant stuff like apple pie, and perhaps more importantly...cider

Pears I can take or leave, hard to find a decent tasting one and most perry isn't up to much either.
