Favourite "disaster movie"

We're going to rent '2012' tonight. I'll cast my vote after watching that...

So far it has to be 2012, as good as all the others are, this is a different league, love it so to speak

Wow. 2012. The worst film I've seen this year, and definitely the corniest I've seen for a few.

Independence Day gets my vote now

Anything featuring Matthew McConaughey is usually a bit of a train wreck.

Matthew Mahogany as we like to call him for his acting style (and because a female member of our friend group has a crush on him).

He was very good in that dragon film I can't remember the name of though (which I thought was very good, but it wasn't well received in general I believe). Although that's because the character was supposed to be stiff an unemotional.

We call him Matthew McCoconut for similar reasons. But then my wife refers to Antonio Banderas as Antandio Danbiddlybops. We're still trying to get her medication right.

Of course!
I nearly said Towering Inferno, but, while I certainly enjoyed it last time I watched it, I was also about 10, so I didn't feel I remembered it well enough to suggest.

Actually it's easy to widen the envelope of 'disaster movie'. One could certainly put George A Romero's zombie flicks in there.

Indeed. Or something like I, Robot.

Poseidon Adventure, which I suggested, already widens it further than the OP intended I think, as his suggestions are all worldwide disasters, not localised ones.
