Re: HD TV Picture Quality

Can't beat CRT for me. Unreal quality outta our JVC here and it only a 28" No need for a Flatscreen imo only if you are stuck for space.

Re: HD TV Picture Quality

CRT'S are very good, but they look seriously outdated nowadays, even though the picture may be better than Plasma / LCD etc....

No doubt that CRTs are good for SD broadcasts, better than flatscreens. But, if you want to take it up to another level, then HD on a big flatscreen will make CRT look ordinary.
Ironically though space can be a big issue, unless you are able to put one on the wall, in which case it will free up that corner for you !

Re: HD TV Picture Quality

I personally wont get HD until the tv's have built in Dolby Pro-Logic II surround like the 32" CRT i have now. The sound is fantastic, the pic is fantastic and nothing i have seen in HD even comes close. I have thought about it but cant downgrade just because HD is the latest technology. One day but not yet.

Ta 73GTVJim for starting this thread - I think after reading it through now, that I should get myself a PS3. Know nothing of the gaming world so will need to look up sites and see what deals/bundles they have!

Re: HD TV Picture Quality

K - what swung that decision for me was the argument that you get a free games console and media player with internet connectivity with your B-R DVD player.

The extra £17 for a remote controller was worth spending for when you play dvd's IMO.

Game and dvd picture quality versus my (old but not knackered) CRT are massively superior. Standard def TV - not much in it.

I still haven't ordered Sky HD but think I will soon.

Re: HD TV Picture Quality

Depends on the setup and the source signal. I've seen setups that are jawdropping in there reproduction of the source material, on the other hand I've seen shops feeding a single analogue feed from a VCR through the aerial socket to a 100 HD displays and made them all look sh!t

Re: HD TV Picture Quality

i can definitely tell the difference between SD on a crt and HD on a plasma, big difference, HD is crisper and there is less noise. i cant tell the difference between 720p hd and 1080p hd though, plasma is miles better than lcd though, especially on bigger screens, lcd just cant do decent blacks and the whole picture looks a bit 'fake'. plasma is more realistic but not as vivid.

i cant however see much difference between bbc 1 on my V+ box and bbchd, yes its a tiny bit crisper but the V+ box does such a good job of upscaling SD pictures that the difference is almost non existant.

apparently upscaled and non upscaled SD pictures look much better on a 720p tv(i have a 720p panny plasma) than on a 1080p tv

also the quality of the hdmi cable makes a huge difference to the picture, mine cost £60 and is only a stop gap one till i can justify getting a really good one.
