Cheers Cloverleaf - and for the DVD tip. Regarding the "hot" set up - the manual expalin that it has 4 standard set ups you can switch between from the remote. One is "dynamic" and it admits this is a default for brightly lit showrooms but works in a bright room! It also has Cinema (darker rooms), Eco (auto adjusts according to ambient light) and Normal (what it says on the tin)

Not sure about that - I was unhappy with my 42" Plasma picture so put it in the spare room and bought a 1080 40" LCD to replace, Night and day in picture quality with much better resoloution and colours.

Yeah, but it depends on the quality of the set you replaced - flat screen tech is still advancing rapidly year on year, so if it was a few years old, or (no offence) a bit of a naff set if the first place, any new set is going be a noticeable improvement. The new one being 1080P is a bit of a red herring; you can only truly benefit from 1080P if you have a 1080P source such as a Blu Ray player, and even then with a 40 inch you would have to sit no more than 4 foot away to notice it.
With SD sources the extra resolution is of no benefit whatsoever, but the more advance picture processing technology on the new set will make it look better.

Re: HD TV Picture Quality
Personally i havent upgraded to HD yet so i voted other, but my bro did some time ago. I went over to take a gander at his set-up because he was complaining that it looked the same as his old tv. He splashed out on 42" plasma with Sky HD and spent almost £200 on HDMI leads for it all. Over-all £1400 was spent and to be honest the tv side of things looks only very slightly better. The DVD's however, using a PS3, are amazing, as are the games, with the picture really crisp and clear.

Re: HD TV Picture Quality
Yeah, that's what I've found, a Plasma TV doesn't actually look all that better unless it's fed an HD source, normal TV quality via a scart is the same as any other TV quality.

Re: HD TV Picture Quality
He's got his Sky HD box hooked up via a HDMI lead. Thing cost pretty much the best part of £100 because he thought it would improve the picture, but it didnt. He aint too pleased.

Re: HD TV Picture Quality
I wouldn't have been either. When you go into Curry's everyone starts trying to sell you MONSTER scart cables that cost half the price of the TV,

Re: HD TV Picture Quality
Watch Casino Royal on Blueray, it is the best transfer I have seen. Also have you set up your PS3 for 1080P. If you can find a Pioneer get one, they won't make them that good again because they cost too much to produce and they can't compete with Panasonic on Price. If you put the Pioneer 8 series next to a Panasonic the Pioneer's picture leaves it for dead.

Re: HD TV Picture Quality
I fink' (sometimes ) they are after us spending more hard come by cash, on an ever ongoing basis. Realise there are optimal pixellations required for HD, but have yet to see first class transmissions, personally.
Yep the new DVD players, games consoles are great in HD, but live stuff?? Anyway, may well get that new HD Sat. Digi. Box, sometime, and get a few of the FTA HD Sat.transponders that are up and running, up there in the skies, so watch this space. When I get some dosh, that is. :

Re: HD TV Picture Quality
I have a Pioneer 7 generation plasma that is not 1080P,but when fed a blueray source ie Casino Royal it is chalk and cheese compared to Casino Royal in standard DVD. My 7th generation Pioneer (non 1080P) leaves the latest Panasonic (non 1080P) for dead let alone the 8th generation Pioneer ( Kuro ) I wish I had waited for and that I could have purchased for 30% less in Australia than the 7th generation Pioneer when I purchased it 14 months ago.
PS Zulu Ferret I sell Beef And Wheat not Audio Visual , it is a hobby I have as well as Alfa Romeos just in case you think I too am trying to push the Pioneer brand.
