she was a very rare breed of politician - one who followed her principles regardless of how it would make her look to the public. compare that to blair and his image-obsessed spin doctors who were happy to abandon just about every labour party principle in the desperate hunt for popularity and votes. i could never have any respect for any politician of that ilk.
britain was a complete and utter mess by the end of the 70's so thank god we had a pm with the cojones to take the country by the scruff of its neck and drag it kicking and screaming into the real world.
of course i feel sorry for the people who lost their jobs in the 80's but they were all on borrowed time anyway, at least thatcher delivered an economy that was viable and which generated new jobs in viable industries. if labour had stayed in power the guys who lost their jobs down the mines etc would still be on the bloody dole queue now as there would be no jobs for them to look for
like cloverleaf says, thatcher was the medicine not the illness. and we all know the worse the medicine tastes, the better it works
