Re: Thatcher State Funeral?

Ridiculous that a woman who was all for individual authority and loking out for oneself, and no society, no reliance on state and all that claptrap should now be linked with a state funeral.

Why should the tax payer fund the old bags passing? Surely her own party should be coming out and camaigning against the very idea?
I'm sure her family can afford to give her a decent send off anyways.

I bet the poxy event will be spread across all the bloody TV channels as well.

I might watch it though, with my feet up and a tinny in hand, waving the 2 fingered salute as she goes.....

The War On Terror is over...
...The Terrorists won.

Re: Thatcher State Funeral?

we did win the falklands under her control

If she has a state funeral does that mean we get a public holiday? If so then I think she should have a state funeral

Send her off in the direction of the Falklands in a burning viking ship so that she may rule Valhalla

Modern Britain has Thatcher to thank for setting the precedent where new Labour has followed. may she burn in hell
The coal industry destroyed itself. It was unprofitable and the unions were trying to use extortion as a bargaining tool..At the time they couldn't sell the coal they were mining. It was cheaper for business and power stations to buy coal from Poland at 2/3 the cost.

The steel industry succumbed to market forces. It was unprofitable in the face of foreign competition. It only survives now because it concentrates on high quality steel and if I'm not mistaken is Indian owned ?

Likewise shipbuilding, if you dont get orders you can't make ships. Japan was building them faster better and quicker. QED

Cars:
The TR7 plant in Merseyside closed because workers believed the empty promises of the unions and were convinced the govt would bale them out and satisfy their greed. They didn't, and the rest is history.

BL, The greatest and most mis-managed car company ever, needed little help collapsing, it owed millions in loans and was being strangled by working practices that if I described them here you would not believe me.

Thatcher took a grip of this country and turned it around following the appalling Labour years that left this country in debt to the IMF for billions. Rightly or wrongly she gave the country it's pride back (though the Falklands Conflict). And the country to the people if anyone is to blame for problems that have since arised it is a minority of our own country men who exploited the system for their own ends.

I remember all this because I lived through the Callaghan years and the Thatcher years.

and now its our turn..We will now have to pay back the billions Brown has borrowed (we were debt free under the Conservatives) and are heading for a recession as Tony's years of ineptitude bite.

I'm sorry if this is upsetting but these are the facts of life
The UK wasn't and isn't a charity.

well said....could you see this country put together a task force and sail to the other side of the world to fight a conflict today with the meagre forces at our disposal.

i heard it said they havent got enough guardsman to line the route anyway.
our forces had resources and a can do attitude then.now they cant even rely on their own personal weapon, let alone safety in numbers, all because of blairs cuts in the defence budget...

they are all as bad as each other.....

Wouldn't have had to if they hadn't started
pulling the plug on South Atlantic patrol vessels
etc.

The UK should never have had to fight that
war. And were lucky not to have paid an even
greater price in servicemen's lives.
Didn't stop Thatcher using it to ride a tide
of blood to an election victory.

one of the best prime ministers this county has ever had, showed the unions that they do not run the county, the democratically elected government does. and kicked the argies awf our land, bliar wouldnt have done that.

I could never do 5 hours sleep - I remember hearing that before, and I think 5 hours was the most she ever slept
all the things people run her down for will soon be water off a ducks back when compaired to Brown/Blair and New Labour the rate things are going
