Exactly, if you can just about afford to run the TVR do it, as you will probably never get another opportunity to do so. Petrol is only going to go up in price. While the VTEC is a nice bit of kit, and an engineering marvel, its not at all 'special'. When your old and frail and driving around in an electric powered tin box at least you can look back thinking how great it was that you managed to own a big throbbing V8, even if it skinted you and wasn't for all that long

Re: TVR Chimaera Vs Honda S2000
The Chimp ofcourse!!
A modern day classic and easier than you think to live with. They'll be much cherished and have any of those pesky factory niggles ironed out. The lazy rover V8 is virtually bomb proof.
Go the whole (boss) hog and get the 4.5 or 5.0

Re: TVR Chimaera Vs Honda S2000
Immediate reaction is the TVR and I'll stick with it.
Both tremendous cars but completely different personalities. The Honda would be the more sensible, economical and easiest to live with option though.
However, I don't have to think of my personal state of impecunity whilst answering such polls!

Re: TVR Chimaera Vs Honda S2000
It might be why I drive a 155 instead of 3-series.. but I'll go with the logical underdog - Chimnaearea

Re: TVR Chimaera Vs Honda S2000
hmmm i have to say tvr as im currently saving the pennies to buy one it will have to wait until i get married next year but the even the 4.5 is such good value.. im temped by an early tuscan, before they ruined the rear end but they are a bit more expensive.
i cant think of a strong reason to buy the s2000 over a tvr, fuel economy i dont think so if that was a consideration then id buy a diesel city car reliability? maybe but most problems will have been sorted on a 7 to 8 yr old tvr, and with so many specialists about they arent that expensive to run. plus i dont fancy a whiny, high revving, anoying engine note either, oh and the s2000 being a honda is very very bland in the looks department.
tvr it is then.

Re: TVR Chimaera Vs Honda S2000
The TVR is a class above the Honda, plus the noise of the TVR will be worth it.
The honda is pretty much under powered until around 6K rpm.

Re: TVR Chimaera Vs Honda S2000
It has to be TVR. Each and every time you drive one its an event, and that sound! Also they look fantastic and i love the interiors. You don't buy one to save money on fuel but to enjoy as a weekend car and de-stress.
The Honda S2000 might well be technically far superior but they look quite bland and driving one hard is tiring due to the peaky engine. Great for everyday and trackdays but not really soul stirring stuff like a TVR.
Anyway coming from an Alfa driver i'd have thought the choice would be a no brainer!

Wish i was diving....

Yeah, TVR and Alfa certainly both have lots of Character and Charisma. The Honda is very good, I have driven one but it doesn't stir the soul in the same way an Alfa or TVR can.
I am sure someone said that only the Italians and the British truely understand sportscars and I agree.

Re: TVR Chimaera Vs Honda S2000
Right, prices for the TVR have dropped even more so, with a decent later model (1997) 4 Litre Chimaera fetching about £6000.
The S2000's however seem to be sticking at their price sadly.
So, once I've sold the GTV I may be interested in a Chimmy

You could do a lot worse. I would go with the 4.5 though. Its 45 horsepower more, and is more balanced than the 5 litre.
When I mean more balanced I mean the engine is not tuned to the same extreme so it is smoother and more reliable. The 5 litre is pretty much on the limit for the Rover V8.
There is a bloke at work with a 4.5 chim, and he uses it most days for his commute.

Re: TVR Chimaera Vs Honda S2000
If you are going 5 litre I would get a Griffith 500. It looks better is much rarer, and holds its value.
Obviously it will cost more to start with though.

Griffith would be but a lot more cash
Didn't they do a 450 Chimp with high lift cams too? Think it just ran for a short while

Re: TVR Chimaera Vs Honda S2000
Its a no brainer. The Honda will be reliable and can be used everyday. The TVR will forever be breaking down and having bits fall off it. In the end it will probably kill you. So, its the TVR every time
