Re: English flag used to promote german car

The Union flag is known as a Jack when being flown from the jackstaff (i.e. the pole at the pointy end) of a Royal Navy Warship at anchor or by anybody else when it suits them.

Hi there, it doesnt annoy me , just embarrases me , as it makes people think the new mini's are British , and lets be fair , there is nothing more embarrasing than the new mini in my opinion. i have driven one , and people rave on about how much fun they are , personally i had more fun at the dentist having a tooth pulled.

Only in part. No wikipedia. Spent some time on HMS Northumberland doing some system trials. Had no choice but to listen to all sorts of tradition and history lessons whilst trying to figure out why the CSH (combat systems highway) wasn't doing what we wanted it to.

Had a great time in Gibraltar though.

What He Said.

Hate it when people can't get that right.

But not as bad as when people don't know
which way up to fly the flag.

Yep the Union Flag, property of the monarch and flown by his / her navy becoming known as the Union Jack in that capacity. Commonly used to claim sovereignty (not that we do that much nowadays) tic.

So are you saying they're not British? If they're not British, then what are they?

Re: English flag used to promote german car

The term Union Flag refers to the de facto national flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland also known as the Union Jack. Historically, the flag has been used throughout the former British Empire. It still retains an official or semi-official status in many Commonwealth Realms. The current design dates from the Union of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801.

Its still a union jack or a union flag its been known as the flag of the union and lots more over history Here is a picture for all of the Picky people to gaze upon Name: 250px-Flag_of_the_United_Kingdom.svg.png

Re: English flag used to promote german car

I think it works as it goes with the 60's retro-"flavour" of the FATI, in the same way as the Fiat 500 "works" with the Tricolour stripes. It's Italian builit in Polska, innit?

But if (e.g.) Honda start sticking the UJ on the roof of the Jazz, I'll have the hump!

Re: English flag used to promote german car

Well, there has been a reasonable amount of House of Hannover involvement over the years, so we will allow them this one? Hope the Scadinavians didn't mind Rovers using the Viking Longship for all those years. Will the Chinese go for it as well, do you think?
