A good engine replacement is gonna cost ya 850-900,that includes labour b4 the critics starting jumping on the their big high horse

I think your options are limited, but if i can help, let me know

I have dealt with plenty of folk in your unfortunate position

Re: 2.0 twin spark engine. late model for 2001 156

I have the chance of a fire damaged engine, the worst parts seem to be the rubbers, but the timing belt feels loose and I'm worried that I'm just buying more problems. The engine would be sold with no warranty so I'd be taking a big chance. also it looks like its from a 145/6 and I'm a little concerned about the differences.

Re: 2.0 twin spark engine. late model for 2001 156

Unless the history can be supplied with a used engine,i would proceed with great caution.

Satisfy yourself that the timing belt and tensioners have recently been done or factor that cost into the purchase price of the used engine.

If you dont mind me asking, what price does a fire damaged engine go for these days ?

Its being sold from a salvage yard for £150. doesnt sound like a lot I know but £150 for a lump of junk is not a good deal.

That is expensive from that model

I sold 1 recently from that model for £200 with lowish miles and no issues,so as you say in your previous post, difficult decision without spending big bucks.

Re: 2.0 twin spark engine. late model for 2001 156

jump up and down if im wrong but id expect to pay 4-500 quid for a good secondhand tspark engine, whilst im on the subject why not buy a 97 or so 145/6 with a good engine, then have it fitted into your car the expense of having it removed from a 146 is offset by the scrap value of the remains. the cats worth 45 quid and cars around 120 quid a ton in scrap. as i understand it the essentials and alluxilaries can be taken off your engine and bolted onto the new one also belts and tensioner change is obviously simpler with the engine removed

Re: 2.0 twin spark engine. late model for 2001 156

FWIW I'd agree with the above....a TS isn't a cheap engine to rebuild - you can reckon on a minimum £200 for belts change, and if you rebuild a head that will be about £300....

So yes, if you can pick up a 145/6 or 155 for less than say £350, you can use the engine, do a belt change and still come in under £500, once you've weighed in the scrap.....

Scrapping the car as is will likely realise c£150 -£200 - scrap has dropped by about 35% recently - so you just have to make your own decision on what yours is / will be worth without /with engine change....

I know its not good news but its truthful....hope it helps...

Re: 2.0 twin spark engine. late model for 2001 156

I only paid a couple of hundered quid for the car so I am going to sit tight and wait and see if a motor turns up. If I scrap it some b*****d will tell me they have one for sale for £200 the next day. so I have decided to leave it standing and maybe do some other jobs on it whilst I'm waiting.
