BMW/Fiat collaboration

Apparently BMW and Fiat have done a deal to develop the next Punto and Mini on a shared platform:

Fiat e BMW - ACCORDO IN VISTA - News - Quattroruote

They say it could be announced tomorrow and could also be extended to developing new engines together.

I think Magneti Marelli supplied both Alfa/Fiat and BMW with similar parts, it wasn't a specifically Alfa system to begin with, I'm sure..

Re: BMW/Fiat collaboration

Actually the selespeed (and other Fiat-brand cutchless manuals) are made by a different, small company in Italy not Magneti Marelli.

Aisin is the company, and they are Japenese

AISIN

Alfa must be gutted that it has enhanced Alfas reputation for being less than reliable.

Re: BMW/Fiat collaboration

We may be talking about different parts, because the company is this one: Graziano

Re: BMW/Fiat collaboration

Here is some info in english Update: BMW to work with Fiat, Alfa Romeo on small car components and another Alfa Romeo announces partnership with BMW | Cars on the net
Scary though, dancing with the devil can get your whiskers singed..... and when you consider what BMW did to Rover, I hope this deal hasn't got any stealth motives

Re: BMW/Fiat collaboration

The supplier of the Selespeed hydraulic AMT system is Magneti Marelli, part of the Fiat Group. Graziano make some gearboxes using it. Its quiet widely used, by Fiat, BMW in the past, Renault, Mercedes and others. I believe Graziano used it for Aston Martin at some point.
